How much does it cost?
Rialto Adult School offers a free High School Diploma program.
What is the difference between the High School Diploma and GED?
A student earns a High School Diploma after completing 180 eligible credits. The GED requires passing four subject area tests.
Does previous schooling count?
High school credits may be considered toward the High School Diploma. Bring your sealed official transcripts and they will be analyzed by the counselor to determine what classes you need to complete your diploma.
Does previous foreign schooling count toward a High School Diploma?
Yes, foreign high school transcripts will need to be evaluated by an approved agency to receive credits.
How long does it take to earn a High School Diploma?
As long as it takes the student to complete the courses. Each course is worth 5 credits.
Do you have a graduation ceremony?
Yes, we have a formal ceremony at the end of the year.

CREDITS: The following courses listed below are available through the RAS independent study program. Successful completion of classwork equals five credits per course. Students must complete at least two classes here to graduate from Rialto Adult School.

The G.E.D. test is accepted nation-wide by employers, community colleges and career/technical schools as the equivalent of a High School Diploma.

Graduation Ceremony:
Students who pass all four sections of the G.E.D. test may participate in the formal graduation ceremony for the Rialto Adult School at the end of the year (June 2024). Contact RAS office at (909) 879-6010, ext. 2960 for more information.
Can I retest if I fail any part of the G.E.D. test? Yes. Please refer to the GED website for specific information regarding rules pertaining to retesting.
National Measure:
The G.E.D. tests are nationally recognized assessments that give people from all walks of life an opportunity to certify their high school education. The high school credential earned by passing the G.E.D. test is accepted by more than 95% of employers, colleges and universities in the United States of America. Tests will indicate the language they were passed in.

You must bring a current valid California Department of Motor Vehicles identification card or driver’s license or other accepted government issued identification such as a passport or consulate identification. Arrive 15 minutes early.
Late admittance is not permitted! No exceptions!

English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL Beginning 1: This course is designed for students who have emerging literacy skills in English. Students will practice communication skills in everyday situations and build a larger vocabulary through listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar activities.
ESL Beginning 2: This course is for students that have some basic knowledge of the use of the English language. Students will be able to listen, write, speak and read in English, using dynamic and communicative approaches that include conversations related to workplace and any daily life situations.
ESL Intermediate 1: The basic life skills topics in this course include: Basic communication, consumer economics, community resources, health and family care, employment, governcitizenship, computation, learning to learn, and independent living.
ESL Intermediate 2: In this course, students will build confidence in speaking the target language, acquire more academic skills, gain skills to reach their employment goals, learn to become life long learners, and gain skills to prepare them for college readiness.
ESL Advanced: This course is designed around the competency-based model of instruction. The emphasis is on literacy and communication skills that result in the student functioning in school and society as rapidly as possibly.

ESL ELECTIVES
EL Civics/Citizenship Preparation: In this course students will prepare for citizenship by learning about civics, understanding the N400 form, and studying the official USCIS100 questions and answers. Students will also participate in mock interviews to prepare for their test and interview.
EL CIVICS/ CITIZENSHIP PREPARATION
“The focus of the Citizenship Preparation program is literacy skills. The program uses ESL methodologies and citizenship preparation material to prepare learners to take and pass the USCIS (formerly INS) written and oral citizenship test. The program includes outreach services, skills assessment, curriculum development and instruction, professional development, naturalization preparation and assistance and program evaluation.” ~CASAS
ESL Conversation: In this course students will continue to learn new vocabulary, read dialogues with formal and informal language, and use conversation starters. Students will engage in guided conversations using questions to obtain more information and extend their dialogues.
CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH
Conversational English classes will focus on improving conversational ability while emphasizing listening comprehension skills, the proper use of English grammar, vocabulary development, common idiom usage, and practice in pronunciation and intonation.

CASAS TESTING
Testing requirements:
All students enrolling in ESL, GED (English or Spanish), or Diploma classes are required to take an initial CASAS test to determine placement level in those classes. After 40 hours of instruction, students will then be required to take a post test to determine growth. Once one growth band is achieved, students will not need to take another CASAS test for the remainder of that same school year.
Students who wish to enroll concurrently in ESL and Diploma or GED classes will need to take two separate CASAS tests as they are distinct assessments and provide different information.

Rialto Adult School administers a Needs Assessment annually to all ESL classes in order to determine the areas that are of intertest to students.
Based on the data collected, COAAPs are selected to be taught and assessed for the year.
During the year, students will be taught and assessed on three COAAPs. The assessment schedule for the 2024-25 school year is displayed to the right.
Student success on the COAAPs result in improved civics skills that prepare students to interact in their communities. They are also an accountability marker that impacts school funding via the WIOA II federal grant.
BASIC COMPUTER OPERATIONS
Certiport testing available!
Students who successfully complete the computer class are eligible to take the Certiport assessment for Microsoft Office.

This course is designed to develop basic understanding and skills in the use of the computer for word processing, data processing, and other office applications. The focus is on keyboarding and the production of basic documents such as letters and reports. Students will be introduced to some advanced techniques such as mail merge, headers/footers, page numbering, and document assembly.

STUDENTS MUST:
• Be 18 years of age or older (must provide ID at the time of registration)
• Possess a valid California ID or California driver’s license
• Pass a criminal background check (this includes DUI’s)
• Pass a drug screening (test date to be determined)
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR REGISTRATION:
The following documents must be submitted along with a completed application at the time of registration. (Application will not be accepted without the required documents.)

• 2 professional letters of recommendation
All letters of recommendation MUST be SIGNED and DATED within the last three years.
*Acceptance into the program will be determined by the administration based on the documents provided. Candidates will be notified if accepted into the program.
**Background check must be passed before being assigned to a pharmacy for practicum hours.
SPACE IS LIMITED.
This program is designed to prepare students for State Board Licensing. This course is approximately 9 months long which includes a minimum of 240 Classroom hours and 120 Practicum hours.
Upon successful completion of the program, student's will be eligible to apply for State Board Licensing and will be ready for employment in the Pharmacy Industry.

Food Handlers Certification
All students are expected to pass a San Bernardino County state food safety test. All students must pass with a 80% or higher and all students have only (2) attempts of passing the test. All students that pass will receive a certificate and food handlers certificate that is valid for (3) years.
Culinary Arts: Intro to Cuisine and Catering
The Culinary Adult course explores the connections between what we eat, customs, cuisines, cooking methods and cultures around us to gain an awareness and understanding of diverse populations within our society. Students have the opportunity to explore the exciting and developing professions in the culinary industry. This course is hands-on where all students can develop their skills, gain experience of running a business and catered events. All students that pass the exam will receive a food handlers certification.

• Receive an appointment to take the CASAS exam.

2: ASSESSMENT AND PLACEMENT
• All students enrolling in ESL, Diploma, or GED classes are required to take the CASAS assessment prior to starting classes. Some CTE classes may require students to take the CASAS as well. Students will be scheduled for an assessment appointment at the time of registration.
• Enrollment in GED, Diploma and ESL classes are on a first-come, first served basis.
• CTE class enrollment is based upon APPROVAL from administration of screened application documents.

3: SCHOOL SUPPLIES
• Certain CTE courses, such as Pharmacy Technician, may require students to purchase scrubs and other supplies for that course.
Enrollment Windows: Registrations for CTE and ESL classes are only available during the open enrollment dates. Diploma and GED enrollment is available year-round.
Class Closures: Classes are subject to close if enrollment numbers drop too low.
Forms: Request for student transcripts, training verification, or other forms from government agencies, schools, etc., require 5-10 working days to process. Submit requests at the Registration Office or online, when applicable.
Children on Campus: Children under 18 years of age are not permitted to attend classes or be on campus.
Insurance: Rialto Adult School does not provide accident or health insurance for students.
Personal Property: Rialto Adult School is not responsible for damage or theft of personal property of staff, students or visitors on campus.
Visitors: ALL visitors must be pre-approved, at least 24 hours in advance, by administration before visiting a classroom. Once approved, they must check in at the front office before visiting the classroom.

Harassment– Verbal, Physical, Sexual & Non-Sexual: The district considers harassment a major offense that may result in disciplinary action and/or dismissal of the offending employee or suspension and/or removal from the school of the offending student. Call (909) 879-6010, ext. 2963 to report an incident.
Uniform Complaint Policy: The district has adopted a Uniform Complaint Policy that addresses complaints of discrimination, harassment, intimidation or violations of state and federal laws pertaining to state and federally funded programs. A copy of the Uniform Complaint Policy is located in the registration office.
No Smoking or Controlled Substances Policy: The district has a policy that prohibits the use of tobacco and/or controlled substances on school property that is owned, leased or rented, during school hours, school sponsored activities, and in all school vehicles (including parking lots).
Discrimination: The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or handicap in enrollment or employment.
PRIVACY NOTICE
All information concerning students will be used by the Rialto Adult School office to evaluate and determine the effectiveness of each program. All information is safe-guarded and maintained confidential. Students may be asked to complete a survey after leaving the program for feedback purposes. Students may be contacted for follow-up information by phone, text, email or U.S. mail.

STUDENT CONDUCT POLICY
Rialto Adult School students are expected to:
1) Carry their pink registration form and RAS picture ID with them at all times.
2) Student registration is limited to one in-person class per person. An additional class may be taken virtually.
3) Arrive to class only a few minutes before class. Proceed directly to class and wait respectfully. There are tables and benches available outside classrooms to wait if classes are not over when you arrive. Please do not disrupt classes in session.
4) Due to limited parking spaces, please leave directly after class to make room for incoming students.
5) No visitors are allowed to attend classes without prior approval from Administration. Permission must be obtained at least 24 hours in advance.
6) Children under the age of 18 are not allowed in class under any circumstances.
7) Cooperate fully with all school representatives regarding any matter related to your enrollment and attendance.
8) Students are expected to comply with all school and classroom rules.
HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY
Students are encouraged to stay at home if they are sick and:
Have any symptoms that can be contagious.
Have a fever of 100.4 or higher.
Feel too unwell to attend class.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Teachers and/or the attendance office reserve the right to drop students at their discretion after 6 non-excused absences. * Absences due to illness or medical emergencies can qualify as excused absences.
Students are responsible for notifying both the front office and their classroom teacher of any absences.
Notify teachers so they can keep accurate attendance records and provide you with any work you missed.
Notify the front office so your absence can be excused, if applicable.
Failure in communicating your absences with the front office may result in being dropped.

CLASS CHANGE POLICY
Immediately after taking their initial CASAS test, students’ test results and placement level options are thoroughly explained to them by the Assessment Specialist and/or Counselor. As a result, there will be no class level changes once students are enrolled in a class, especially since classes fill up quickly.
However, in the event a student is insisting on a class level change, they will need to make an appointment to meet with the Assessment Specialist or Counselor to see if that change can be accommodated. Bring your pink registration slip with you to this appointment.
Class schedule changes are not guaranteed and will depend on the student’s test results and class space availability. If there is no room to accommodate your request for a change, you will have the option to either remain in your current class or be dropped from that class to be placed on an interest list for your desired class, for which there is no guarantee that you will be enrolled. Enrollment dates do apply. If enrollment dates close, you will have to re-enroll for the following semester.
DRESS CODE POLICY
Students are expected to adhere to the following dress code policy in order to ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment. The following is a partial list of items and clothing that are not allowed on campus:
Excessive or bulky bags, purses, backpacks, or duffle bags.
Any item or clothing which prevents the recognition or visibility of the student while in the classroom, office , or on the school campus.
Wearing sunglasses indoors except for prescription-tinted lenses.
Bare midriffs, cleavage, tank tops, sleeveless undershirts/muscle shirts worn as an outside garment, strapless/ sheer tops/dresses, or any article of clothing which exposes undergarments or posteriors. Pajama/lounge ware and terry cloth wraps are prohibited.
“Sagging” or baggy pants/slacks bought too large for the natural waist size. (No more than 2 inches larger.)
Shorts, dresses, and skirts must be mid-thigh length or longer. (Close to the knee.)
Military attire, including combat or steel-toed boots/shoes.
Clothing promoting the use of profanity, alcohol, drugs, weapons, tagging, “power” to a particular group, sexual connotation, heavy metal, vulgarities, and/or satanic involvement.
Permanent or temporary tattoos that are inappropriate or gang related must be covered up.
Footwear should be appropriate for normal activities. Stiletto heals, flip fops, bedroom slippers, footsies, or softsoled moccasins are not allowed.
Smoking on a school campus is a violation of State Law. Smoking is permitted across the street off of school grounds.
Excessive piercings, plugs, tunnels, spacers, wallet chains, and spiked dog collars are not permitted.
Any item or clothing not listed above may be deemed to be inappropriate to an educational setting by the administration. Students in violation of this dress code violation may be sent home to change. Continued violation of this policy may result in further disciplinary action.

Welcome to Rialto Adult School. My name is Kimberly Watson and I am the proud Principal of Rialto Adult School. We offer classes taught by highly-qualified, experienced, and credentialed teachers who are dedicated to providing you the content and strategies you need to meet the challenges of the future.
Our program offers the following courses: English as a Second Language (ESL) beginning through advanced, high school diploma, GED preparation, as well as career technical classes to train you vocationally (Computer Basics, Culinary Arts, Pharmacy Technician, and more to come). Classes are offered in-person, virtually and through independent study in the mornings and evenings.
Opportunities are provided for our adult students to continue their education and transition to community college, vocational programs, and advance in their work. Our bilingual counselor will assist you with setting your academic and professional goals.
