MFI celebrates Scholars’ Day The outstanding scholars from the Industrial Technician Program and Farm Business Institute embodied the year’s theme of “Aggressive in Pursuing Success”, and were recognized and awarded for their hard work and efforts from the previous school year during MFI’s 33rd Scholars’ Day Rites, held last July 15 at the MFI Gymnasium. Simultaneously, freshmen scholars from the ITP were also introduced to and received by the Board of Trustees—represented by MFI’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Engr. Antonio M. Kosca, Jr.—an

annual ceremonial rite for the incoming scholars of MFI. Engr. Kosca also formally opened the ceremony and introduced this year’s keynote speaker, Inquirer Group’s Director for Mobile, Javier Vicente “JV” Rufino. The ‘Scholar of the Year’—which is the

highest recognition awarded to a student —was given to 3rd year Electrical Technology scholar, Isabelo L. Pareña, after demonstrating the MFI core values of social responsibility and excellence through his involvement, initiative and leadership in various organizations in and outside MFI, including

Scholars succeed at Skills Comp Antonette H. Fidelson (Electronics), Nicko Jay M. Garin (Electrical Installation Maintenance), Ivan G. Aguilar (Computer-Aided Design and Drafting), Tristan Joseph L. Amargo (IT Network System Administration), Kim D. Mendoza (Information Network Cabling); the duos of Arianne S. Liwag and Dan Kervin L. Del Mundo (Industrial Automation), and Ysa Llana S. Miranda and Gio Enrick A. Garcia (Mechatronics), all took the gold in their respective trade industries at the NCR Skills Competition that concluded last August 27. Erlyn Joy Labis (Web Design) and Xyrus Maccah P. Pangyarihan (IT Software Solution for Business) also won the silver and bronze respectively. The participants were the winners of the PaMaMariSan District Skills Competition held last July 8 to 11. The gold medalists will proceed to compete in the Philippine National Skills Competition later this year, and ultimately in the ASEAN Skills Competition to be held next year.

MFI restructures; revitalizes Vision An organization or company’s vision statement defines the optimal desired future state of what it wants to achieve over time and provides guidance and inspiration to achieving these. So in concurrence to the new structure of MFI implemented officially last July 1, the Board decided to revise MFI’s vision statement as follows: “We are a private self-sustaining learning center recognized as the preferred leading provider of quality technical and agribusiness education serving as an effective agent of change, especially to the less-privileged, helping enterprises to grow, communities to prosper, and

This integration hopes to further transform the organization and open more opportunities for both customers and stakeholders. Non-academic departments are the Finance and Administration, Business Development and Marketing, and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Services. BAP, scholars ‘Meet & Greet Afternoon’ The ‘Meet and Greet Afternoon’ held last July 23 was organized by MFI for its scholars and their parents to meet and learn about their benefactor—Berjaya Auto Philippines (BAP)—and vice versa. President and CEO of BAP, Steven Tan, stressed the importance and values of education to its scholars, saying how it “allows us to help others, ourselves, our economy, and the community”. He added, “this is the first important step into the next phase of your lives.” Freshman , John Lester Rico, on the other hand, reminds his fellow scholars, ”It’s our duty to choose the right path in order to succeed,” and thanked MFI and Mazda for the “bright future” given to them through the scholarship opportunity. BAP After-sales Director, Dave M. Macasadia; Communication and

Relationship Manager, Sherlyn Co; and Technical Training Specialist, Oliver Ramon Buan, were also present. Also in attendance were MFI EVP and COO, Engr. Antonio M. Kosca, Jr., and Education and Training Programs VP, Manolo Santos, who delivered the welcome and closing remarks respectively. Berjaya Auto Philippines-the exclusive distributor of the Mazda vehicles in the country--renewed its partnership with MFI, supporting 20 more incoming freshmen from the DTS course in Automotive and Motorcycle Technology. They are currently supporting a total of 40 scholars at MFI and has helped in the growth and development of the course. Mazda has also donated a number of car parts for the use of the students.

MFI partners with Siemens Phils. MFI has partnered with Siemens Philippines, a multi-national company and the leading provider of a wide range of electrical, electronics and automation products. Siemens VP and Country Division Lead, Enrico Z. Buergo, and MFI EVP and COO, Engr. Antonio M. Kosca, Jr., signed the memorandum of agreement between the two parties last June 25.

“The training agreement is a significant step for both MFI and Siemens since we share the same aspiration of developing and upgrading the technical skills and know-how of its participants through quality training,” says MFI Instrumentation Department Supervisor Dennis Porlaje. Siemens will now be offering their training programs at MFI and will be handling various TIA, or Totally Integrated Automation, SIMATIC S7 courses.
