With previous experiences at Chabanne & Partenaires Architectes, I have been through the different stages of a project, met deadlines, and worked efficiently individually and as part of a team from a concept to the construction details. Hard working and self motivated, always keen to learn more, I also follow the conviction that architecture as to be humanist at first, and each situation deserves a singular approach both on the analysis of a program and the characteristics of the site.

LEARNING & INNOVATION CENTER Campus ULB-VUB, Brussels, 2017

A place of transitions The Learning Center is characterized by the alliance between research and training. It is not totally out of sync with the library typology but is part of one of the current transitions mostly related to the expansion of the digital area. Books are not forgotten and shelves are not systematically replaced by virtual storage servers, but technology remains at the heart of its operation. The modes of learning and production evolve accordingly: we talk about distance learning, research through digital libraries, or ÂŤ crowd sourcing Âť.

An integral part of a campus or even its central point, the Learning Center is also the place of connection, intermediate to other academic entities, providing additional functions participating in the dynamics of a campus. All this generates a different reflection in the architectural logic of the place and its operation. We then find flexible spaces linked to a constant transition and meeting a need for versatility, many meeting places and some interaction between the main areas.

Centrality, connection and landmark The central location of the Learning Center in the ULB / VUB site allows for easy connection between the surrounding buildings and a landmark building potential.

It serves as a transition between the two campuses, linking two public spaces today in complete rupture.

serves as a meeting place but also a link between the functions of one building to another. Finally, the difference in level between the levels of this urban sheet allows an indirect light (north) to enter an atmosphere conducive to the study space it overlooks.

Some axes of neighboring buildings are taken over and a bridge in several stages concretizes this link. At the project level this bridge is materialized by a public space on several levels around which the two volumes of the project are grafted.

This public space punctuated with micro-situations and spontaneous events

With regard to buildings, the accent is put on a strong interaction between two false twin volumes and the third volume, empty, that they come to make exist. The visual complementarity is paradoxically created by the dynamics of the two opposing volumes, the aesthetic objective being a landmark building with clean forms.

MIZRAHI CULTURES CENTER,

Neve Sha’anan, Tel Aviv, 2016

The project is taking place on the former disused site of Tel Aviv’s Central Bus Station, on the border between the northern and southern parts of the city.

The neighborhood remains in great questions of identity and the gentrification phenomenon pushes a disadvantaged population to leave the places under the big private investments. This is a counter-project defending the interests of the Mizrahi culture (from local populations), establishing a place of life and activities composed largely of a theater, auditoriums, galleries , library, social center, restaurant, in the form of a cultural center.

Everyday activities are separated from the event part of the project according different schedules, as well as light needs. The building’ scale also follows and a special attention is given to the junction between these two parts of the city. On the other hand, the memory of the site is taken into account concerning the old bus platforms, reinterpreted in the new building, each hosting a specific part of the program.

IN BETWEEN LIMITS

Jaffa, Israël, 2015

« A place for hosting and meeting for locals and tourists. The visitors will experience traditional Arab flavors and meet the chefs – Arab women from Jaffa, who will share their personal stories and the story of Jaffa from their point of view. » A first observation on informal architecture in Jaffa had arisen on an analysis of the limits management. These limits may be visual or physical, and more or less free. It allows to separate the public spaces from the private spaces, or sometimes only to protect themselves from the sun. The project began by the exploring the explicit and implicit limits, several examples were listed, both in their shape, different materials, their architectural meaning.

Inside the "in between space"

One of the examples of limit found in Jaffa is reused and reinterpreted in the project. There was a openwork fence made of concrete blocks, alternating empty/ full.

Generalized to the whole project with a gradation of transparency in terms of space, it can manage the different limits : visual, physical, solar. This notion of boundaries traduced by an openwork becomes the main concept of the project. It appears as a first openwork facade from the street, and create a corridor with the second front, this time frank limit with inside the building. It acts as a corridor between two, creating a neutral space between the public and the private, used here for the weekend market / everyday coffee place or else for an indirect entry into the building.

The structural axes are reused, as is the organization and symmetry of the plan around a central space.

The existing building is enlarged in its peripheries with a homogeneous envelope inspired by the site.

SBM HEADQUARTER

Ecully, Lyon, 2017

The head office of SBM, which sells care and crop protection products, is located in the former premises of Euronews in Ecully.

The purpose of the venue is to communicate to the client about the company’s new eco-responsible spirit, while providing its employees with spaces adapted to new forms of work, highlighting collaborative energy and a certain fluidity.

These intentions are manifested by the setting up of open-spaces accompanied by informal work areas, as well as the integration of a plant component in the interior design.

AQUATIC CENTER CANETON

Romans-sur-Isère, France, 2018

The project consists of the rehabilitation and extension of the Pool Caneton built in 1970. The objective of the operation is to expand the activity with a new 25 meters pool allowing the establishment to become the reference of the region for national competitions.

The intervention also includes the restoration of hygiene standards and the development of outdoor spaces following the evolution of the practice in an aquatic center. The constructive details are mainly based on the connections between different construction techniques (concrete / metal), particularly focused on the hygrometry and acoustics issues related to this typology. Finally, we have prepared the building site phasing of the for the next stage.

Muret, France, 2018

Modularity : The small town of Muret needed a complex event adaptable to different situations (hall, forums, banquets, exhibitions, concerts, sports competitions on soft ground).

To respond to the different configurations, the project consists of a simple volume and an annex part, gathering reception services and technical rooms.

The important points of this stage were mainly focused on the acoustics of the room (result of concessions between design offices and interior design), and on the other hand, in the reconsideration of materials and constructive choices (passage of a parametric facade made of metal strips to prefabricated concrete modules.
