2024 Annual Report

MISSION

We care for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in our community through services that alleviate suffering , promote dignity , and instill self-sufficiency … as an expression of the ongoing ministry of Jesus Christ.

VISION

Metropolitan Ministries will be America’s most effective caregiver to poor and homeless people.

• Our programs will be known for their compassion and innovation in helping struggling families and individuals achieve their highest potential for self-sufficiency.

• Our approach to involving citizens in understanding and caring for their disadvantaged neighbors will serve as a replicable model.

• Our caregiving will be supported by an exemplary staff, high-quality facilities, dedicated volunteers, donors and collaborative partners.

• Above all, our witness will be to the power of love in healing broken lives and building strong, caring communities.

HOPE Does More

Dear Friends,

Storms of life, financial storms, economic storms, healthcare storms, and two vicious hurricanes belted Tampa Bay families like no other time in our 53-year history. We always say nothing good happens at Metropolitan Ministries without the support of our community. It is your support that is the difference maker for over 50,000 families in four counties.

This was a year where we spent over $2 million in hurricane response, doubled our capacity in Pasco County to shelter more families, and expanded our holiday assistance program by over 10% while at the same time accomplishing this feat with less donations! How is that possible? It is possible because of YOU and the contributions of friends like you, who have continually given to help more hurting neighbors in our community.

We once again celebrated many independent recognitions, including our four-star 100% rating on Charity Navigator, our Platinum Certification for Transparency on Candid, and national recognition by Best Places to Work in the Nonprofit Sector with a designation for Purpose and Value. Thank you for your trust and faith in us to use your gifts to make the greatest impact.

Finally, this year we remember the late Reverend Morris Hintzman and his legacy to care for families in crisis. He was a man of great vision and compassion for the poor. His family, the Metropolitan Ministries family, and our community miss him greatly. His impact lives on because of generous donors like you.

If you have any questions or ideas you would like to discuss or would like a tour of our campuses, please do not hesitate to call me. Thank you for making it possible for us to do more for families in our community. We are truly grateful for your support.

With gratitude,

In Memory of Rev. Morris E. Hintzman

Guiding Light of Metropolitan Ministries

A visionary leader, compassionate advocate, and devoted servant of the Lord, Reverend Hintzman leaves behind a legacy of profound impact through his work as the CEO of Metropolitan Ministries.

For over four decades, he led Metropolitan Ministries with an unwavering commitment to helping those in need. His influence led to over 47 million meals served, 2.8 million nights of shelter provided, half a million families helped with holiday assistance, 2.2 million volunteer hours logged, and more than 3 million children’s lives impacted.

Morris was a tireless advocate for social justice, frequently collaborating with local government, businesses, donors, volunteers, and faith-based organizations to address the root causes of homelessness and poverty. His compassionate, humble approach, combined with his deep faith, inspired those around him to join in his mission to make the Tampa Bay area a better place to live, work, and serve.

His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Morris’s love of family and his faith fueled his passion to help any struggling or homeless family have a Merry Christmas, food on their table, or a safe place to find hope.

Reverend Morris E. Hintzman’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the community he helped build. May he rest in peace, knowing his work on Earth made a lasting difference.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Metropolitan Ministries maintains a Platinum 100% Transparency rating from Candid (by GuideStar), the world’s largest source of information on nonprofit organizations. This rating puts Metro in the top 0.1% of charities nationally in terms of transparency.

Metropolitan Ministries’ 4-Star, 100 out of 100 status is the highest rating provided by Charity Navigator, America’s premier independent charity evaluator. We are proud to receive this symbol of trust, representing the measures we take to be accountable, transparent, and responsible stewards of donor dollars.

Great Nonprofits is unique from Charity Navigator and Candid in that their charity ratings are awarded based solely on reviews from donors, volunteers, and other supporters.

Sanctuary certification symbolizes an organization’s commitment to providing a higher level of care, a trauma-sensitive environment for the people we serve, and a better work environment for employees. Sanctuary certification requires re-evaluation every three years, as it is designed to promote, sustain, and strengthen an organization’s commitment to the maintenance of a trauma informed culture for all of its stakeholders.

Metropolitan Ministries is honored to be recognized by Top Workplaces, the nation’s leading employer recognition program, for our people-first culture.

THE BOTTOM LINE
