During this wonderful season, I trust that you and your family are enjoying all the benefits and fun that summer provides. It is truly a fabulous time of the year! While you enjoy your fun in the sun and time away from school, I want to provide you with a quick update on Metro that can be summarized in three words: progress, programs and prayer.

C.S. Lewis once stated that “progress means getting nearer to From the desk of the place you want to be.” Currently, the halls of Metro are filled Roger Gerstenberger, with the dust, dirt and sounds of “Progress.” These improvements Headmaster and enhancements propel Metro forward towards that place we want to be in regard to our facilities and programs.

Our Camp Patriot programs are filled with students having fun completing DNA analysis, interacting with tutu wearing pot-bellied pigs, participating in sports camps and ministering the love of Jesus at various places throughout the city. Interviews are taking place and contracts are being offered to highly qualified staff and coaches filling the vacancies of those who have retired or transitioned from Metro. Finally, the staff and administration are working fervently on ways to progress Metro forward.

I recently had the privilege of spending two days with Metro’s Board of Trustees at our annual summer 2014 Board strategic planning retreat. During this time, we affirmed of Trustees: our commitment to guide and drive the programs and Steve Allen product of Metro forward through a number of initiatives.

I cannot express Becky Chapman (Chairman) to you how meaningful it is that the Board agrees that Bryan Craig we must precede every decision, every project, every Shannon Duncan Geof Eng concern, and every plan with prayer.

Tanda Francis Prayer is powerful. Prayer changes circumstances.

Jarrod Frie Prayer invites the wisdom, favor and purposes of God Dr. Sherri Gordon into those areas that we dedicate our hand and efforts.

Scott Horton With prayer as our number one priority, our progress Thom Irwin and programs will be more successful, more impactful Amy Mills and more efficient. As each of us commit our ways, Jennifer Smith including our progress and programs to the Lord and Sally Sullivan then trust in Him, He will bring them successfully to fruition (Psalm 37:5).

I pray for a fun, safe, and productive summer for you and your family. I also ask that you join the Board and staff of Metro in prayer over our “Progress” projects, our programs and our new staff hires. In doing so, we can expect amazing results!

New Science Labs in basement

PROGRESS IS UNDERWAY! As we completed the 2013-2014 school year, you saw the start of PROGRESS as demolition projects got underway. Over the summer, major construction is taking place throughout the school to make room for much needed expansion and improvement. When students arrive in August, they will find: n Two new science labs, a new classroom, and storage area on the lower level n New state-of-the-art weight room with access to the training room and locker room facilities and new athletic office space in the north athletic hall n Renovation of two rooms in the Elementary to make space for the high demand of students in those grades n New 10,000 sq. ft. (+/-) indoor practice facility accommodating and supporting the entire athletic program

Endowments Provide $59,791 in Funding to MCA The Metro Christian Academy Foundation presented a check to Metro Christian Academy for $59,791.72. The check was presented by TMCAF President Bob Wadlow to Metro Headmaster, Roger Gerstenberger during the last basketball game of the regular season.

Each year the Foundation provides a gift totaling 5% of the cash value of the endowments back to the school. The funding from the Foundation endowments supports Tuition Assistance Scholarships, Building & Grounds Maintenance, Staff Development and the Diagnostic Instruction Center (for program needs and tuition discounts) as well as providing funds for miscellaneous needs via the General Endowment fund. The 2014 distribution to each area is based on 5% of the value of the individual endowment account, which creates the following disbursements to each area: TUITION ASSISTANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Metro Christian Academy Foundation was established in 2005 to manage the growth and development of endowment gifts supporting Metro Christian Academy.

2014 Headmaster’s Annual Appeal & Dutch Auction Review Hammers, nails, drill, and saws – they are everywhere at Metro this summer!

Projects paid for by the Headmaster’s Annual Appeal are heating up along with the temperature outside. The restrooms upstairs have been gutted and as soon as they are completed, the carpet on the 2nd floor and staircase will be replaced. The new scoreboard is scheduled to be installed at the end of June. Installation of Phase II and III Security enhancements (paid for by the Dutch Auction that raised over $46,000) begins in the next few weeks, in conjunction with the installation of voice amplification and improvements to the MAC sound system. The students will also come back to new tile in the area near the staircase where the planter use to be.
