‘Building one Toronto’ Tory wins election. City’s next mayor vows ‘balanced’ leadership after scandal-plagued Rob Ford years John Tory has been elected mayor of Toronto. The Ford era is over. Tory promised “sensible, competent, accountable” leadership after four years of scandal and upheaval under Rob Ford. Tory also promised to be a “balanced and accountable leader” after four tumultuous years under Ford. “Ladies and gentleman, the people have spoken and tonight we begin the work of building one Toronto, a prosperous, fair, respected and caring Toronto,” said Tory in a speech at his victory party at the Liberty Grand on Monday.
