CHAMBER MATTERS 2022

Rooster Booster to feature Wesleyan Alumna Lydia Dorman The Chamber will host its Rooster Booster breakfast this Thursday, November 3 at 7:30 a.m. at the Owensboro Convention Center (501 West Second Street). The program is sponsored by Kentucky Wesleyan College and will feature speaker Lydia Dorman, former Senior Vice President of Human Resources for The Coca-Cola (Japan) Company in Tokyo and graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Lydia Dorman ’82 is a Washington, D.C. native who found herself in the Bluegrass State after researching colleges with broadcasting curriculums and what she recalls as a serendipitous chance encounter with a Kentucky Wesleyan admissions counselor that led to a campus visit. She was eventually awarded a prestigious Brown Scholarship and chose Wesleyan over two large universities because of the personalized admissions process and the feel of the small but mighty supportive community around her. As a student at KWC, Dorman majored in telecommunications, minored in business and was an active member of Kappa Delta sorority. She went on to earn her master’s degree in corporate communication with an emphasis in training and development from Western Kentucky University. Recently retired after a 35-plusyear career that spanned several continents, Dorman now resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dorman’s professional career included stints with The Walt Disney Company in Orlando, Florida, Toyota Motors Manufacturing in Georgetown, Kentucky and eventually her role as Senior Vice President of Human Resources for The Coca-Cola Company in Japan. In total she spent over 23 years with The Coca-Cola Company delivering HR strategy and people programs in established and emerging markets throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Dorman was inducted into the Kentucky Wesleyan College Alumni

LYDIA DORMAN Hall of Fame in 2017 and a recipient of the College’s Alumni Achievement Award in 2014. In 2016, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree prior to delivering the Commencement speech on “Being your Brand” to KWC’s graduating class. Dorman continues to be active in her community, giving back through involvement with numerous charitable organizations. She has shown tremendous support as an alumna of KWC by serving on the Kentucky Wesleyan College Board of Trustees, the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors and the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force.

Kentucky Wesleyan College has a rich and proud history of providing an immersive faith-based liberal arts educational experience. Students receive a foundation that sets them on a path to a successful career with a calling. Kentucky Wesleyan produces graduates who remain in Owensboro and a part of the fabric of our community. KWC brought them here to pursue a quality education, and the Owensboro community kept them here to put that education into practice. More than half of our over 8,000 Kentucky Wesleyan College alumni live and work in the Owensboro/Daviess County region and contribute significantly to the high quality of life here. KWC alumni serve our community as CEO’s, presidents, doctors, nurses, educators and more. Kentucky Wesleyan College is proud to be not only a College in Owensboro but a College for Owensboro. For over 70 years KWC has long been a staple to the Owensboro community, providing local and affordable education, community entertainment opportunities, sporting events and outreach projects. As a faith-based college, Kentucky Wesleyan has a thriving and vibrant Campus Ministries program that is allowing students to own and grow their own faith. Programs such as Wesleyan Kicks have distributed well over 1,500 pairs of shoes to local schools, while the builda-bed ministry has provided over 100 beds over five years to local children in need. Our Panther athletic programs provide not only a fan experience for top NCAA Division II athletic competition in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, but also service and outreach opportunities from student-athletes to our local schools, non-profits and more. Theatre Arts and Music programs provide events and performances that add to our Owensboro community’s rich cultural and arts scene.
