Great design calls for great artwork (and vice versa!)

We love to see an interior designer complete their vision with the perfect work of art, or even design a room around an inspirational piece.

We asked some of our talented design partners to share their favorite piece from our collection... check out what they’re loving.

falling for SHERRI BELASSEN, PERFECT STORM

I have always loved the Perfect Storm from Sherri Belassen. Her use of color, scale and proportion in this painting reflects much passion, power and excitement. It is transformative, vibrant and full of life. Makes you want to dance or fall in love!

transported

I love art that acts as a story starter, instantly transporting me to a different place and time. Coming Through Again carries me to a childhood state of wonder – I’m suddenly scrambling over the rocks and climbing to the water beyond. I have nothing on my agenda other than exploring and observing. The work is full of juxtapositions that are both peaceful and exhilarating – soft brush strokes and quick sharp lines and angles create movement while the use of calming blues and greens contrasting with warm oranges and reds sparks curiosity and reflection.

about AMY DONALDSON, SHADES OF LIGHT

This piece reminds me of goldfish in a pond and how much my son loves watching them move about. The black really makes all the other colors sing and Amy Donaldson’s use of light and space simply feels like springtime!

drawn to TOM BOLLES, MIDNIGHT TARGET

Loving the simple boldness of Tom Bolles’ Midnight Target, perfect for a room that needs a contemporary statement piece. It lends a pop of vibrance without being overwhelming with its unique, circular shape.

PRINCETON,

I love any piece by Padron as it can be placed in any room and commands your attention. It’s interesting, it’s lively, it’s happy and belongs in any and every house I work in, whether it’s a dressy space or a relaxed space, it always fits in.

dreaming

of LIZ BARBER, BLUE WAVE 5

What I love about Liz Barber’s work—and especially this piece—is how effortlessly organic the movement is. Her art has a subtle, soft feeling, yet it’s quite vibrant. I love how she layers color and texture while still feeling light and ethereal. This work makes me happy when I look at it, like a beautiful dream.

DAVID BURDENY, AMORE, PARIS, FRANCE

I love this photograph for the peaceful use of colors. It captures wonderful geometric shapes and a question of what is the view from the windows. A timeless piece.

I love art that inspires a vision of its eventual living space. Drawn to large, calming art with abstracted components and unexpected bits of color, this thoughtful Adolphe composition compels me to design a relaxed environment using walnut and rich yellow Danish modern dining chairs. The walls might be soft white or muted lilac with a textural rug covering the natural oak floors.
