TRICK OF THE TRADE Gavin Harris, 13, jumps over a garbage can lid at the Merritt skate park on Tuesday. In honour of the United Nations International Youth Day on Aug. 12, Breathe Bikes hosted a group of youth at the skate park to ride their bikes and scooters. The City of Merritt offered kids a free swim and a movie as well. Lindsay Fehr of Breathe Bikes said that because this year’s youth day has a theme of mental health, they decided to give their youth “a mental health day.” “We really wanted to start giving youth something to do,” Fehr said. The Smart Step Youth Association is also running its annual “Paint Our City Clean” campaign next week, during which community youth clean graffiti from buildings and pick up litter.
