100% traditional
A range of free guided visits are organised by the resort so visitors can explore the valley and find out everything they want to know about the history of Méribel. A peaceful walk around the "village circuit" introduces you to all the secrets of Méribel's mountain villages. For a more leisurely stroll, you can discover former trades in the heart of the village of Le Raffort. At the now-refunctioning mill and sawmill at Raffort, holidaymakers can learn more about the history of mountain forestry and the growing of cereal crops in the mountains (barley, common wheat, rye, etc.).
Founded in the 1930s by Scottish visionary Peter Lindsay, Méribel is known for its outstanding architecture which is in perfect harmony with its Alpine environment. The buildings all follow very precise specifications, with wood and local stone for the main structure and mountain slate for the sloping roofs. This approach gives the resort a rare architectural unity, as evidenced by the famous Route des Chalets designed by Mr Lindsay himself.
