FARM + FIRE Typology: Food Hub Location: Portland, Oregon Year: Winter 2022/Spring 2023 Partner: Henry Kosinski Professor: Jeff Ponitz The kitchen is the central driver in the life cycle of food. At a more communal scale, the kitchen becomes a place of interactions between people, foods, cultures, and ingredients. Farm + Fire breaks the kitchen program into three different typologies: Education Kitchen, Community Kitchen, and Ghost Kitchen. With an emphasis on catering to the immediate community Farm + Fire uses the typologies as a vessel to create and enhance those connections and interaction while working symbiotically with the greenhouses.

The kitchen then becomes a space where food is not only prepared, but where education, socialization, and business can occur.

REUSE GARAGE Typology: Cohousing and Community Hub Location: Copenhagen, Denmark Year: Fall 2023 Professor: Cecilia Nilsson Reuse Garage transforms an underutilized parking garage in Nørrebro into a community asset and co-housing project aiming to restore community autonomy after urban renewal. The design focuses on adaptability with modular wooden pavilions on the ground floor that house a woodshop, bike shop, and maker space. Co-housing on upper levels features apartments with modular and deconstructable elements. A public urban garden, cafe, and greenhouse on the roof promote sustainability. Existing materials, like concrete and steel rods are repurposed and a material bank facilitates community resource sharing for creative projects.

Morro Bay Research Center Typology: Clean Energy Research Center Location: Morro Bay, CA Year: Winter 2023 Professor: Chris Allen The Morro Bay Research Center, located on a jetty, combines a public experiential instrument and research facilities. Visitors enter into a bright space looking out at the waves crashing on the jetty, and it would be completely silent.

They then enter a dark space that provides no view of the ocean, and the sound of the waves is amplified by the parabolic shape of the space. The public experiential instrument invites people in to focus their attention on the repetitive and meditative sound of the waves crashing on the jetty. By limiting other senses, the sound and sight of the waves are heightened in the two distinct experiential rooms.

Exploring modular housing through the basic elements of micro, macro, and matrix, 0-80 aims to create housing that is adaptable to occupants needs throughout their lives. Starting with a basic micro unit of 5’x 8’x 12’ derived from the spacial needs of common programs, these units were then arranged into a larger macro unit or individual housing unit. These macro units are then organized into the overall matrix, or underlying structure of the project.

The intention is to allow for personalization by the occupants as their needs change.

Pavillion Market Typology: Food Market Location: Portland, OR Year: Winter 2023 Partner: Bella Pineda Professor: Jeff Ponitz

Skin of overlapping shingles made of glass, colored glass, or metal

This week-long warm up project adapted the timber structural system of The Lantern Pavilion by AWP / Atelier Oslo in Norway to an open air market on a site in Portland, Oregon. The project uses three distinct types of spaces delineated by the three different sizes and pitches of roof. They are arranged to create a central open space and several smaller courtyards. The smallest space is covered seating, the middle is dry market stalls, and the largest is wet market stalls. The individual pavilions have distinct identities defined by the color and type of roofing material as well as their relationship to each other and the street. All four bounding streets are important pedestrian access points, therefore this project allows for entrance on all sides while varying the experience by employing the interactions with the market pavilions.

MARIACHI CENTER Typology: Performance and Community Center Location: Los Angeles, CA Year: Fall 2022 Professor: Meredith Sattler The Boyle Heights Mariachi Performance and Community Center combines musical excellence with community focused spaces to bring life and purpose to an underutilized site. Focusing on site as a design driver was important so that the project fits in and fills up empty needs. The solid void relationship of the surrounding buildings creates a pattern language that is continued onto the site to complete the block. The repetition of the light posts throughout the plaza defines space and circulation and creates a language that drives connection into the site. The north side of the project follows the solid void pattern of the block to concur with its surroundings while the south side opens to the plaza, encouraging engagement with the building. An impactful visual connection from the building to the Gazebo and Boyle Hotel on Mariachi Plaza is provided on the path of circulation into the indoor theater to remind visitors where they are.

CLOUD FÜNF Typology: Design Build Location: San Luis Obispo, CA Year: Spring 2022 Partners: Collin Douglas, Sophia Hensel, Henry Kosinski & Spencer Rosner Professor: Zarah Rasti Cloud Fünf was designed as part of the six week Design Village Competition at Cal Poly.

Working with 4 teammates we designed, tested, transported, built, and slept in our structure.

Using donated dunnage bags, Cloud Fünf evokes a feeling of lightness as if it could float away. The structure was designed of modular wood members and 3D printed joints that create the support for the dunnage bags. We designed a transportation system that allowed us to transport inflated dunnage bags 1.5 miles because of the lack of access to power on site.

Our structure was praised by visitors for its uniqueness and playfulness.

Photography & Art I have always been passionate about creative endeavors and enjoy doing photography and art in my free time. I love capturing people, architecture, and nature through both film and digital photography. Pencil sketching, pen drawing, oil painting, watercolors, acrylic, gauche, and collaging are all media I work with.

Photography and art are my creative outlets; there I observe and learn about the world around me.
