FALL 2021

Varsity Golf

Varsity Golf had another successful season led by WBAL Golf Champion Brooke Barron ‘22, who shot a 37 at Sunnyvale Municipal Course. Brooke continued on to compete in the CCS Championship.

Cross Country Team Cross Country improved their times with every race. Led by a core group of juniors who were joined by strong runners in the freshman class, the team is excited to return a majority of athletes next year. Water Polo

The Mercy Water Polo Team enjoyed a rebuilding year as they had six freshmen join the program (and sport!). The water polo team transformed in speed and skill development throughout the season.

Sister Act Growing up on the west coast of Ireland, the McGuire sisters seemed destined

to spend time in the water. Summer and Lily have been in the water since they were 3 months old and have been making a splash around ever since. When they arrived in Northern California the family found new pools and a new sport in water polo. When Summer started at Mercy she tried out for the water polo team because of her background in swimming. Once Summer got into the sport, Lily joined a water polo club team so that she could be ready to join the team at Mercy. Now, both sisters are on the Varsity team. This can be challenging for some, however both Summer and Lily have relished the opportunity. When asked what the best part about having Lily on the team this year, Summer replied, “I have my sister right behind me, I get to show her the ropes.” The water polo team has great leadership from a core group of seniors and juniors. All freshmen have found their space quickly thanks to that leadership. Both sisters noted how the intensity has increased in practices throughout the season saying, “Mrs. CB is a really good coach, she doesn’t hold back in drills and is focused on conditioning.” Summer ’23
