Ash
Wednesday
The theme of this year’s Ash Wednesday service was the journey of Lent in which students followed a path throughout the perimeter of our campus, and its beauty set the tone for a peaceful and contemplative journey. Led by staff members carrying crosses, students stopped at five stations for various reflections around Lenten themes including the life death cycle present in creation and Lenten sacrifices as opportunities to forward personal relationships with Jesus.
Religion Teacher and Campus Minister Sandy Flaherty noted, “This year’s Ash Wednesday Service was very focused around the theme of Lent as a personal journey. After the service many students commented that Ash Wednesday came alive for them. They understood that the journey of Lent requires time, attention, effort and inward reflection.”

Mercy High School is part of a network of Mercy schools in the US and six countries abroad. The governing body of these schools is Mercy Education System of the Americas (MESA) In 2020 MESA began revising the Mercy Educational Core Values. As one of the members of MESA, Mercy will be adopting these new core values in the fall. We consider these Core Values as the hallmarks of a Mercy Education. These are the ideals we stand up for and strive to live up to. We hold ourselves to these standards as an institution, as a faith-community and as individuals. Each value is interconnected and necessary as we strive to take Mercy into the world. The Mercy Core Values include: Compelled by Mercy, Educational Courage, Inspired by Faith, Principled Leadership and a Voice for Dignity and Respect. Throughout each student’s journey, the Core Values define the attributes they’re expected to acquire and the steps they’ll take to gain them. Every experience and academic opportunity is linked to and aligned with our Core Values.
