THOREAU CABIN DEDICATION July 12, 2017
In honor of the bicentennial of Henry David Thoreau’s birth, we conceived a grand project: a series of workshops dedicated to the production of a replica cabin located in the deep woods.
We had to find just the right site.
We needed a plan.
And a General to execute the plan. That’s Pete Newton.
. . . Some skilled professionals to deal with the obstructions and prepare the site.
Merck Forest provided raw materials: spruce logs . . .
. . . a hearthstone . . .
and materials for the foundation.
Enthusiastic students gathered to learn about timber frame construction.
When winter settled in, the workshops moved indoors . . .
