Science Fair helps participants grow and share their interests
I
am a killer. An insect killer, that is. I think I am truly helping the environment through my science fair projects. As an aspiring scientist, I can safely say that science is the most helpful subject. How rude of me to not introduce myself. My name is Suchitra Dara and I am in seventh grade. I have participated in Science Fair since fourth grade, and science is my favorite subject. This year, my project is about testing how compatible an enviGuest Education ronmentally safe columnist biopesticide and eight fungicides are. I tested my experiment on mealworms, which are darkling beetle larvae. Now that you know a little about me,

let me tell you a little bit about Science Fair and what it can do for children my age. Science Fair is basically an opportunity to test anything. For example, I do my projects on agriculture and entomology. I really enjoy the fact that I have academic freedom to do whatever I want with my project. Also, I get to meet other children with similar interests and scientists who work in the field I enjoy. Through Science Fair, enthusiastic participants can gain experience and share ideas with other people. Even adults enjoy walking around and looking at boards around the displays. Many of these children go on to do great things, and there are countless benefits that come with participating in Science Fair. Science Fair is a great way to get innovation started and it is definitely a lot of fun. This year’s camp will be held June 8-11 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Art & Spirituality Center on the corner of Truxtun Avenue and A Street in coordination with Dignity Health Mercy and Memorial Hospitals. The camp is for children and teens
ages 7-17 who have lost a loved one. The four-day camp offers activities including games, music, arts and crafts, and special guests, which help children work through their grief, reflect on their loved ones and begin the healing process.
