Dear Preschool Parents, Greetings! Welcome to a fun filled school year here at Mentari Preschool Grand Surya! We would like to welcome the new parents and the students who will be joining us this school year. We also welcome back our current parents who have continued to entrust us to be partners in educating your child. Be assured that we are continuously finding ways to make preschool a fun yet educational experience for our young learners.

We have 2 K2 classes headed by Teacher IA and Jenny ; K1 with Ms Joice; Nursery lead by Ms Atika and Toddler under the caring hands of Ms. Michelle . Together they bring with them years of combined preschool teaching experience.

As your children learn to speak, read, write and interact with their new and bigger world, we hope our combined efforts will make this a happy year of learning.

Term Theme: Myself and My Body Preschoolers have an insatiable desire to learn more about not only the world around them, but their own bodies, as well!

To start of the year , the preschool term topic will discuss this very important topic.— My Body .

Topics on self awareness, parts of the body and its functions, proper care including health habits , hygiene and healthy food will be learned for the entire term .

Ideas for this term :My Body Snack for Preschool Encourage good eating habits in your preschool students. Teach them the importance of eating healthy foods in order for their bodies to grow strong.

Some healthy snacks include: - fruits , vegetables, yougurt and cheese cubes Noodles and rice is also a welcome treat just as long as it is prepared with balanced diet rules in mind.

Hygiene for Preschool Start a daily hygiene chart which can include the following hygiene habits.

Brush Teeth (morning) Wash Face Put On Clean Clothes Brush/Comb Hair Take A Bath/Shower Use a tissue to wipe nose Brush Teeth (evening)

Who is Montessori?

Dr . Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952) created a system of learning known as the Montessori Method. She was one of several charismatic and ingenious pioneers of early childhood education who were active during the first half of the 20th century. Today, thousands of Montessori Schools flourish around the world; Dr. Montessori's method is perpetuated through the schools that bear her name and is accepted as best practice in a growing number of traditional school communities, as well.

What’s up at the Mentari Preschool?

Teachers As we welcome the new school year , let me re-introduce you to the Preschool staff. My name is Ms Melanie and I come from Manila, Philippines. I have 27 years experience in the field of education . I have been with Mentari Preschool since it opened its doors in 2009 Our pioneer teachers in the preschool are Ms. IA, Jenny, Joice and Atika all highly capable and active teachers. Ms Michelle who also comes from the Philippines handles Toddler as well as Computer classes Ms Nurly, Dini, Vivi ,April, Ica as well as Nova , Kadini ,Windy and Erni are our teacher assitants and helpers and we assure you of their patience and dedication in helping your child.

Teacher Ernie ( Lao SHI )– is our Mandarin teacher .She is excited to share her lessons , songs and activities to the K1 and K2 class whom she will meet every Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Mr Risky is our new librarian and he will help our K1 and K2 students when they borrow books .When your child brings home a book , kindly read it with them so they will learn to love books .

Facilities— Indoor Playroom and Outdoor Play Area. No preschool can ever be withoutplayrooms. Your child needs to run and play as this is an important part of their growing up needs.. Even if the weather is too hot or rainy, playtime will always be fun for your child.

The Montessori room is at the second floor. It is spacious and is loaded with a lot of didactic (self teaching) materials in the Practical, Sensorial. Language Arts, Math and Cultural area. The Nursery, K1 and K2 classes will do Montessori work here from Monday to Thursday under Teacher Melanie’s supervision.

Learning Centers– each classroom has been arranged with learning centers to help your child occupy learning time wisely.

There are different areas such as Language, Math, Art and Manipulative area all equipped with age appropriate materials and educational toys.

After School classes for Preschool will begin on September 3.,2012 Classes on English as a Second Language ( ESL ), Reading and Math for preschoolers will be offered. Details to follow .

SPECIAL EVENTS OF THE TERM INDEPENDENCE DAY (Merah Putih at Mentari Preschool (10 August—Friday ) Merdeka ! Let your child be proud to be Indonesian ! Our first activity this term is the Merah Putih celebration . We will have games and fun on this day !

Let your child wear red and white

********************************************************************** Lebaran Party ( 7 September –Friday) Lebaran or Ramadan is an important holiday celebrated by our Muslim brothers .What is it all about? We will have a mini Lebaran celebration to introduce this celebration to your child.

We will have games , crafts and food to enjoy this day . Let your child wear sarung for boys and selendang / kerudung pants and long sleeved blouse or ankle length dress.for girls or batik clothes . ********************************

Preschool OPEN HOUSE– (AUGUST 14 FRIDAY) Know what happens in your child’s class. Come attend our OPEN HOUSE Your Head teacher own will explain the curriculum, how the classroom /Montessori activities are carried out, rules & how the whole term is planned to teach the theme and various subjects.

There will be no classes on this date .Kindly leave your child at home for this activity.

Sept 22 (Friday ) Nutrition Parade.

Let’s have a parade !! Fruits, vegetables , milk , fish , eggs etc. are all coming out for a parade because they make our body healthy !

Examples of costumes : Dress up your child in a simple yellow t shirt / brown shorts and have some paper leaves for head gear to look like a mango ( glow food ) .

An all white attire with a glass of Milk as a head gear is just fine . He can come an egg or or a cabbage too !.

To mark the end of the school year 2011-2012 , the preschool presented its year-end live show “RIO” .Animals from the rainforest came alive !

Congratulations to our kids for a job well done ! The toddlers, nursery, K1 and K2 children were very good first-time actors, actresses and dancers!
