Heading Into Sunday’s Match-Up:
Memphis comes into Sunday’s clash against Missouri State with an unblemished, 2-0, record. On Thursday, the Tigers posted a come-from-behind victory, 3-2, over the Belmont Bruins. Liam Collins provided the game-winner when he bent a free kick around the wall of defenders and past the keeper in the 88th minute. Freshman Lewis Ellis and sophomore Mark Sherrod also scored goals for Memphis in the physical battle. In all, 34 fouls were called and six yellow cards were handed out in the match. Statistically, Memphis dominated the game holding significant advantages in shots (19-10) and corner kicks (6-0). Missouri State enters the match after dropping their first two contests to Belmont (1-2) and Tulsa (1-2).
Player Spotlight
Mark Sherrod Sophomore Forward Through two contests this season, Mark Sherrod has found the back of the net in both contests. In the opening match versus Lipscomb, Sherrod tallied the game-winning goal. Sherrod provided the equalizer in the 75th minute provided the opportunity for Liam Collins’ game-winning goal. Sherrod leads the team with five points on the season.
