SCHOLARSHIP OF INTEGRATION

Dr Elnahas’ collaboration in teaching and research with interdisciplinary teams develops a climate of enthusiasm, teamwork, and cooperation. He promotes the full participation of all team members by seeking and encouraging input, and works effectively and collaboratively within and across departments.

HM Interdisciplinary Design Charrette In the winter of 2013, Dr. Elnahas helped in facilitating an interdisciplinary design charrette sponsored by Herman Miller to envision the future of workplace in 2018. Three interdisciplinary design teams of four students from architecture, furniture design, interior design and design management produced proposals to meet this projected future.

DVF Fashion’s Night Out In the spring of 2011, Dr. Elnahas partnered with a Motion Media professor and proposed innovative media installations for fashion designer DVF. Proposals work on different scales, and involve different levels of interactivity. The first group can be viewed as discreet concepts or combined to create a more immersive experience for visitors to DFV studio, so that as they congregate on the sidewalk outside they are surrounded above, below and to one side with interactive visuals. The second group is larger scale works that act as a beacon, attracting visitors from greater distances and act as monumental spectacle. These can be implemented individually or collectively.

Collaborative Design Studio In the spring of 2009, seven interdisciplinary design teams, consisting of architecture, interior design and motion media students, designed comprehensive branding solutions for the “Center of Civil and Human Rights” in downtown Atlanta’s Pemberton Place. Each team was committed to design the project at every level of detail proposing a package of integrated architectural, interior and graphic design.

SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING

As an educator for 20+ years in the Middle East, Australia, and the US, Dr Elnahas acquired an extensive experience in both western and non-western cultures. Dealing with diversified faculty and student body intensified his communication skills- both written and verbal.
