What is Voice?
How do we use it?
What is agency?
When do we employ it?
Why do people protest?
How do people protest?
When do we feel responsible for our thoughts, ideas, speech and action?
How do we "show up"?
How do we reveal our responsibilities?
Our Voice, Agency, and Protest unit was framed by the statement of inquiry, “People use voice and agency in the public sphere based on their point of view, the time, place and purpose.”
Students engaged in Qatar Debates sessions about Social Movements, read Say Her Name by Zetta Elliott, read Black Lives Matter by Dr. Duchess Harris, analyzed Chloe Collyer’s photo essay, “Youth Activism” and students examined social movements they cared about. Students learned that voice is not just about what we say but where and how we say it. Students learned that agency is about the power they have now to let the world know what matters to them.
Welcome to the issues that Grade 9 Qatar Academy Sidra students care about. Welcome to their “voice.”
