Fun Facts Dug is a cockroach. For many people, cockroaches are pretty gross. They scuttle over bins and our toothbrushes. But cockroaches are actually quite amazing.

• Cockroaches hear with their legs. Little leg hairs allow them to pick up sound waves, which means they can hear us coming and crawl away to hide, often before we even see them.

• Cockroaches are fast. They can run 50 times their own body length in a second. That’s even faster than a cheetah, who can only run about 20 times its own body length in a second.

• Cockroaches fart A LOT. They fart more methane gas in a year than they weigh. Gross.

• Cockroaches help the environment by breaking down organic matter and composting stuff.
