Discussions and Decisions

District and County Councillors’ Reports

The Council thanks our District and County Councillors for their latest report.

This can be seen on pages 37-39 of this issue of Meldreth Matters and questions and requests for further information on this wide range of subjects can of course be raised directly with our District and County representatives. There are often important references to surveys and consultations on local and regional issues which residents are urged to consider.

MCCS

The Warm Space initiative in the Elin Way Community Room is now operational on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12.00 noon to 3.00pm and all local residents are welcome to attend for drinks and other refreshments. We have a strong team of committed volunteers to help with this and we need to thank them for all that is being done to set up and manage this important and welcoming facility. The Food Bank has similarly been established at the

Community Room and is open on Tuesday mornings. Again, we thank those who commit their time and energy to setting up and running this facility. Both these measures bring relief and benefit to those attending in this most difficult of times.

Recreation Ground and Pavilion

Most of our equipment remains in good order. Repairs and adjustments are being carried out as quickly as possible, subject to the availability of contractors.

New signage and bins are now prioritised for attention.

Village Infrastructure

Some of the necessary work to repair and/or install equipment has now been completed and the reminder will be completed as soon as possible.

Traffic Working Group

The Working Group recently met and discussed projects relating to a possible 20mph speed limit and other measures to address questions of safety particularly with regard to speeding traffic. Discussions with the Highway authority are in hand. Residents are asked to report any highways accidents that come to their attention.

Community Projects

The Working Group reported its recommendations on four proposals for community funding: 1. Village Hall: two pieces of equipment for floor cleaning £868.79. Approved for payment. 2. Relate Charity: donation of £500 to help provide subsidised counselling to

Meldreth residents. Approved for payment. 3. Meldreth Matters: £1,500 of short term funding support to help bridge a period of uncertainty regarding advertising revenue and printing costs whilst the MM management team considers measures they might take in response to current economic and financial conditions. Approved for payment. 4. Pedestrian underpass on the route between Meldreth station and Station

Road: £2,000 contribution by Meldreth Parish Council for refurbishing the underpass at a total estimated cost of £16,000. Approved in principle subject to timing. It was further decided that the questions outstanding with

County Highways regarding the status of part of the route needed to be clarified prior to payment being made.

Finance Working Group

The Council accepted the Group’s recommendation to maintain the village

Precept (Council Tax) at its current level of £66,000. Costs are of course increasing and the Council believes that it is important in this time of financial stress and economic uncertainty to look at all our costs very seriously, to see where savings might be possible.
