ART

I bought some David Hockney postcards. About his pool paintings. I visited the TATE Britain and I bought the exhibition catalogue, a notebook and a pen at the museum store. I kept my ticket just because I really enjoyed the exhibition and I did the same with the explanation leaflet. I bought the reproductions of his paintings as if I was buying a small sample of his artwork.

The exhibition showed the different perspectives and periods on the artist’s career, organized in different exhibition rooms. His polaroids with fragmented perspectives, his sketches, the digital landscapes he created by using his ipad and his pool paintings.

Conceptually based as if it were a great apropiacionist painting, the prints that appear on the garments are entirely painted by hand with textile painting, reproducing extracts of his artwork. Fragmented and displayed in overlapping panels like his polaroids compositions or his landscapes divided on triptychs.

In the collection, three perspectives intertwine: the visitor’s way of experiencing the exhibition, where there are references to the museum’s own branding; Hockney’s personal style as a fashion icon; and that of his Los Ángeles paintings.

The textiles are mainly lightweight and plastic-looking fabrics. Linings, wind screens… Mixed with cotton poplins and silk shirt-like fabrics in the tonalities of Hockney’s pool paintings. This game of hibridation is also part of the patterns. The garments are built by overlapping squared panels and details. The silk scarves are exhibition tickets, TATE’s store envelopes, the back of the postcards I bought.

The collection is a small personal “Piranesi”. An approach to the figure of David Hockney through his way of recreating vegetation, the water, the midday light.

The smell of chlorine and pool.

The artist as an icon itself. In the collection his dress codes become a support for his artistic work, creating a constellation of personal and artistic elements. His trench, suits and eclectic color combinations, or his weird shoes are the formal basis of the collection.

Conceptually based as a great prints that appear on the hand with textile painting fabrics, reproducing extracts pectives, the vegetation, the

great apropiacionist painting, the garments are entirely painted by on silk, cotton or waterproof tech extracts of Hockney’s artwork. His persthe water...

The branding codes make up the context. It definitely on the visitor’s experience of the exhibition in a very way. The postcards, the entrance ticket, the dotted they are scanned, re worked and printed on silk.

definitely intertwine very particular dotted patterns...
