2023 Center for Youth Wellness Architectural Competition

Site : Maheshwar, Madya Pradesh The Youth Wellness Center aims to provide a holistic and nurturing environment dedicated to the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of adolescents and young adults. Our center is designed to be a haven where individuals can access comprehensive support and resources to navigate the complexities of adolescence.

The Youth Wellness Center strives to be a beacon of hope and support for young individuals navigating the complexities of life. By providing a comprehensive range of services, fostering a sense of community, and promoting overall well-being, we aim to empower youth to lead fulfilling and healthy lives.

Center for Youth Wellness Metamorphosis is an Adobe for revitalizing the life of a youth cornered by the society. The concept reminisces the process of metamorphosis being a metaphor to how a youth moulds his life while he interacts, contemplates, learns and eventually carves his own niche in his life story. To shed off the skin of bad habits and incorporating a healthy lifestyle.

The self introspection accompanied with the physical interaction with the peers help them find themselves.

The whole process meanders to heal the youth mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

Niche : To break the shell and to come out of the niche with a healthy mindset to face the world .

There is a reception area with the following amenities: an MRI station, therapy rooms, counseling rooms, and the OPD.

Open Classrooms with views of the surrounding landscape and the retreat center. Additionally, it has a spill-out area for interative learning sessions because of its connection to the courtyard.

2023 Mixed Use High Rise Academic Project IIIrd Year, VIth Semester

Site : Ahmedabad, Gujarat The goal of this project is to build a mixed-use high-rise on the 4035 m2 block of land where the AUDA headquarters currently stands. The project aims to transform the main Ashram road into a pedestrian-friendly and commercial area while adhering to CBD criteria. The location is open from 3 sides and is easily accessible because it is situated on the main Ashram Road.

The position offers captivating views of the Sabarmati River’s eastern side.

Mixed Use High Rise The brief of the project asks to design a mixed use high rise in Ahmedabad, Guajrat. The site is on the main Ashram road with 2 sides accessibility : one in the front and one at the back. There is one bus stop in the front side with commercial and residential buildings all around. The site is currently the AUDA office and will be redeveloped as a mixed use building according to the new CBD guidelines.

There is no restriction on the permissible ground coverage after leaving setbacks from all the sides. The FSI will be 4 which is increased by adding the fabric of CBD which will eventually be implemented in the upcoming years. The design responds to the future context with high rises in all the adjoining plots of the Ashram road. The masterplan also mentions another road on the left side of the plot that will make the site accessible from 3 sides.

As the site is accessible from 3 sides, its a pedestrian focused design.

Pedestrian and vehicular movement is seperated out.

Ground floor has a high street plaza with food joints and some parts of the retail.

Amenities and Retail covers upto 4 floors. Commercial offices have double heighted spaces to make the setting interactive and terraces are made in such a way that it provides mutual shading.

Auda office is situated at the top to provide a peaceful environment.

To provide privacy and views of the sabarmati river, residence is sitated at the top most level.

FACADE DETAIL By creating the green terraces that provide mutual shading, the sun is blocked off from the west facade. There are wooden louvers that further prevent heat and warmth from entering the chamber, and a green covering that covers the area helps reduce solar radiation.

2022 Major Dhyan Chand University Academic Project IIIrd Year, Vth Semester Solar Decathlon India, Semi Finalist :Team Viridis

Site : Meerut, Uttar Pradesh To use passive strategies to build a big institution specializing in sports and education, with the main components of the design being the administration, cafe, auditorium, classrooms, and library. This was completed in a pair. The location boasts a dam adjacent to it, providing a picturesque setting and a picturesque vista.

The structure is designed to represent a valley-like shape that faces the dam on the other side for spectacular views. The classrooms are easily accessible from the hostel side, while the cafe and workshops sit a little further back from the entrance to provide more privacy. Bridges on the top levels connect the library to the classroom and faculty blocks.

A space frame is placed over the exhibition space. Green terraces on various elevations serve as meeting spots throughout the structure. The form features an oat in the center.

Individualistic identities blooming in a collaborative living environment

2022 Student Housing Architectural Competition

A neighborhood with a variety of housing alternatives will assist mold the student population and contribute to the general well-being of the community, which will serve as India's cornerstone.

It is to design a quality and innovative student housing in India for 140 students occupants with all individual/shared amenities. The aim is to enhance the concept of "Student Community Living in India".

Collaborative Student Housing THIS COMMUNITY LIVING IS INTERSPERSED WITH MULTIPLE COMMON INTERACTIVE SPACES ENCOURAGING THE IDEA OF EACH ELEMENT HAVING INDIVIDUAL IDENTITY BUT NO ELEMENT IS INDIVIDUALISTIC. We wanted to avoid the usual vertical program segregation (of public facilities on the ground floor and apartments on the above floors) that heavily depends on elevator circulations. Instead, we proposed an ascendant promenade “carved” into the building’s volume, which would allow pedestrian access to all floors, from the ground floor all the way up to the rooftops. All the necessary public facilities would be allocated along this promenade.

In this way, the architecture encourages a more walking-conscious lifestyle and provokes encounters between its inhabitants. The hope is to offer a community-like experience to all these hundreds of students who will be coming from very different origins and that will be cohabitating here for the years to come.

GREEN TERRACES

The colorful play of the three primary colours with black lines forming a proportionally structured grid culminates into one of the famous Piet Mondrian painting selected for.

Colours are the cynosure of all eyes depicting the peculiar nature of the grid pattern of this painting. The Piet Mondrian painting exemplifies the idea of individual identifies carving their paths represented by black lines. These enthusiastic lines cross puncture each other to initiate a new chapter in the life of a student who is now beginning to the embrace the student life. The intersections act as a point of merging of ideas and identifies unified to create a collaborative living environment, marking the true essence of community living.

Sarai-e-Kala A aphemeral adobe lost in time

2023 Louis I Kahn Trophy NASA Top 10 Shortlisted Entries Site : Gharaunda, Haryana Gharaunda is situated approximately 16 kms from Panipat on the Panipat Grand trunk Karnal Road on the National Highway No. 1. To the east of the town is located the Mughal sarai.

Once a very beautiful building, now its only two gateways are surviving. They are located within a distance of about 100 metres.

The silence here echoes, the whispers of time, of kings and

queens, who once owned this shrine.

CATTLE AROUND THE SITE

The gateways of sarais are usually built high and monumental to be visible from a distance, and it seldom had a fixed relation to the size of the respective Sarai itself.

Usually, the gateways had a distinct double arch feature with ornamentations.

Unfortunately, no such decorations have survived in any of the recorded sarais.

These gateways were often two to five stories with enough rooms to accommodate shiqdars and the chowkidars.

URBANISATION CHILDREN PLAYING IN THE SITE

WHY GHARAUNDA?

The ASI says that the british demolished the Sarai in 1857 to oust mutineers who were entrenched in it. There is also a talk that the three storied gate used to be five storied Sarai gate but it was destructed by the Britishers. . Presently, there are two gateways here. The existing gateways are a part of the northern and southern walls, both have three storeys and are made of 'Lakhori bricks'.

INTERACTIVE LEARNING

The structure is 450 Years Old with 1,194 m2 Build Up Area and is qualified as a historic Building. This site has one of the undocumented sarais. To enhance awareness and hence increase importance of the heritage.

The site is currently involved in the community as a passive feature,hence necessity to move it up to be an active part of the society is required.

MARKET PLACE

The gardens, the arches, the intricate design, A symbol of Mughal glory, so divine.

TERRACE

Terrace level is inaccessible as the staircase leading to it was broken.

SECOND FLOOR Two bands of crossings mark the junction of two storeys of bastions. Bricks have been corbelled to create the pattern to accentuate the ornamenatation of bastion. The angled punctures in the bastion would protect the gateway from security threats. The exterior of these punctures are adorned with small jharakhas which would serve as a decorative element as well as provide protection to the openings.

At the soffit of each arch, there is an umbrella like formation of stalactites some of which are painted in white on a red background.The central big arch has three window-openings above it.

These qualities are visualised in the appearance of shape of the arch at the entrance gatearches which was a predominant style during the period of Mugal, Shah Jahan in 17th century.

The second storey again is approached by two flights of steps.

It consists of as many as eight rooms of various size and shapes, connected with each other. The balconies visible on the outer and the inner facades are projected from this storey.

On the ground floor, the passage through the central arch is flanked with a 3.7 m deep verandah on either sides, each of the three walls of which open into a room. These rooms are of different size and shapes.

FRONT ELEVATION

The two storeyed tapering bastion contains eleven rounded flutes. The upper stories have small balconied alcoves. The punctures provided in the bastion are oriented at an angle which will not allow any external threat to enter the gatway through these openings in case of an attack. These angled punctures allow light inside the bastion alcoves. Each corners having alternately rounded and angular flutes, it is very much like the first storey of the Qutb Minar. It seems that the architect had got the inspiration from the Qutb Minar.

Tapering chajja helps rainwater to slide as there were no water drainage systems.

DOCUMENTATION TO DESIGN DESIGN NARRATIVE The Gharaunda offers an opportunity to create spaces that aids to the village.

Parents concerned about children’s education villagers with skills potential unemployed, and their heritage cultures diminishing. The design weaves an Anganwadi that threads around the needles of such issues as an integrated extension of the ruins.

The Anganwadi aids to women and children as their main users where their education goes beyond the ‘Bookish Knowledge’.

By intervening at the Gharaunda, the design gives back to the village, a cheerful playground for the children, a multi functional community space intricately connected to a workshop space via walkways.
