Acknowleding the seasonal nature of the boat building school, the design strategically places emphasis on the deck area, serving as the central circulation hub among three buildings. This intentional layout ensures an ever-present connection to nature. Guided by the topography lines, the building’s orientation pays homage to the bending processes inherent in boat building. It is a deliberate act of carving, sculpting a relationship between the structure and the boat building process. Envisioned as a waterfront haven, the building is characterized by its striking slanted roofs that serves residents and visitors with unparalleled views of the surrounding water. The interior spaces are designed to prioritize the comfort and functionality, with open floor plans that encourage a sense of community and connectivity. Outdoor terraces and communal areas seamlessly extend from the slanted roofs, providing residents with inviting spaces to relax and a visual experience towards the waterfront.

Vision
Creating a welcoming atmosphere, the school uses principles of proximity, light, and mobility to cater to the needs of the deaf community and make everyone feel included. The layout of the three buildings aids students in navigation, each serving distinct purpose - a relaxation lobby, classrooms, and exercise and staff space. Spacious staircases and corridors facilitate signing and enhance spatial awareness. Numerous balconies and bridges offer retreats from the pressures of school life. Glass walls facilitate easy circulation, bringing natural light into the main areas.

The design of the Tower Library is intentionally centered around the books, with the focal point being the collection itself. The books are arranged in a tower-like fashion around the central working space, emphasizing the significance of people as the core of the library concept. Placing essential elements such as the brokerage office, owner’s office, and the delivery room at the center allows the books to circulate around the central functions. Balconies on each level further accentuate the circulation within the building. On the ground level, you’ll find the primary book collection, while the second level is dedicated to maps. The topmost floor serves as the home for the rarest and most unique books, stored in the rare book storage. This arrangement creates a hierarchical structure, forming a pyramid of importance within the library. Visitors on the ground floor can gaze upward visually capturing the progression of the book collection as it ascends through the levels.

Vision
Architect Jorn Utzon constructed the Saint Hannes Cross Church in Copenhagen in 1976, featuring a distinctive architectural approach where the exterior and interior exhibit contrasts. Within, the structure includes white precast concrete panels and glazed white tiles arranged in an organic form attached to a frame. Utzon positioned reflective glazed tiles to accentuate the curved concrete surfaces inside the sanctuary. In contrast, the church’s exterior has a more brutalist aesthetic than its interior. The soft curves within the sanctuary not only serves as a means to manipulate light but also stand as visual interest. Throughout the research and diagramming phases of the project, I acquired the skill of gathering information and reinterpreting it in my unique manner to enhance my comprehension of the structure.
