D ATUM Datum is a species that has been recently discovered.It is an underwater data miner that lives in the deepest part of the ocean. This part of the ocean is the Mariana Trench. It feeds on data and solves the mysteries of the ocean. Its common name Datum is derived from its species name, Hydrodatummysterium.

This name is a combination of words in Latin meaning water, data, and mystery.

On the top of the head there are long thin antennas. These grow with the growth of knowledge and research. Each bulb on the strand hold the history of a solved mystery.

This creature resembles animals from shallower waters such as jellyfish but its shape also defies classification.The Datum’s body compresses to propel through water.

This part of a Datum’s body is one its most important features.

This is its typographic data collector. This is the tool that helps Datum import the knowledge for the mysteries into its internal computer located on its back.

SPECIFICATIONS POPULATION: There can only ever be two Datum’s in the world at once. These two may never even meet because they do not know about each other.

LIFESPAN: Datum’s can live up to 150 years old with constant data collection.

The number of barnacles on the body of the Datum determine its age.

SIZE: The body of the Datum is about four inches long by two inches high. The antenna’s attached on the top of its head can go as long as a couple feet.

The antennas continue to grow throughout a Datum’s life because each bulb on the antenna holds the history of a solved mystery. The more mysteries, the more bulbs DIET: They live off the data that is collected when solving the ocean’s mysteries. If they do not continue to data mine, the creature gets weaker and weaker. As a snack this creature like to nibble on the marine snow that drifts through the water made up of organic material. This does not provide much nutrients for the Datum but is tasty.

INTELLIGENCE: These creatures are very intelligent and are able to solve mysteries about things that humans don’t even know about yet. For hundreds of years humans have been trying to solve the mystery of the Yonaguni Monument that is located deep in the ocean near Japan. Datum has just discovered that the monument was a part of an ancient city.

REPRODUCTION: It is almost impossible for Datum’s to reproduce with a mate because there are only two in the world at one time and sometimes they never find each other in their lifespan. A new Datum is created when one Datum has died. Its body forms from one bulb of the dead Datum’s antenna.

PERSONALITY: Datum’s are very kind hearted animals but they like to keep to themselves. They are not social creatures. They like to focus on data mining in order to keep themselves alive. They thrive on mystery.

YONAGUNI MONUMENT This monument is a part of the Yonaguni Submarine Ruins located off the coast of Japan 400 feet under water. These ruins feature rock formations up to 90 feet tall. The platforms and pillars resemble man made structures.

Scientists have been trying to solve this mystery for hundreds of years until now.

When scientists found Datum, they tapped into its computer database inside its body and was able to translate the data that Datum has collected. They found answers to thousands of mysteries of the ocean including this monument.

Datum was able to discover that these ruins were part of an ancient civilization that lived under water.

This civilization was created 10,000 years ago. Now these ruins are referred to as Japanâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Atlantis.

Kale Robinson, a deep sea explorer and biologist discovered Datum at the bottom of the ocean in the Mariana Trench, Pacific Ocean. It was located in the deepest part of the trench and the deepest part of the ocean, The Challenger Deep. The trench is home to many creatures that most humans have never seen before. This trench is where Robinson spends most of his time and has discovered new species here before.
