CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THE WELFARE OF THE HORSE

The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) expects all those involved in international equestrian sport to adhere to the FEI’s Code of Conduct and to acknowledge and accept that at all times the welfare of the horse must be paramount and must never be subordinated to competitive or commercial influences.

1. At all stages during the preparation and training of competition horses, welfare must take precedence over all other demands. This includes good horse management, training methods, farriery and tack, and transportation.

2. Horses and Athletes must be fit, competent and in good health before they are allowed to compete. This encompasses medication use, surgical procedures that threaten welfare or safety, pregnancy in mares and the misuse of aids.

3. Events must not prejudice horse welfare. This involves paying careful attention to the competition areas, ground surfaces, weather conditions, stabling, site safety and fitness of the horse for onward travel after the event.

4. Every effort must be made to ensure that horses receive proper attention after they have competed and that they are treated humanely when their competition careers are over. This covers proper veterinary care, competition injuries, euthanasia and retirement.

5. The FEI urges all involved with the sport to attain the highest levels of education in their areas of expertise.

A full copy of this Code can be obtained from the Fédération Equestre Internationale, HM King Hussein I Building, Chemin de la Joliette 8, 1006 Lausanne, Switzerland. Telephone: +41 21 310 47 47. The Code is available in English and French. The Code is also available on the FEI’s website: www.fei.org

EVENT INFORMATION

EVENT OFFICE

Open from 7.30am, Thursday to Sunday. The event office may be closed on occasion.

DRAWS

Draws will be published on Equipe the evening prior to the day’s classes.

The Indoor Arena takes precedence over all arenas and will run strictly to draw order. Riders that do not adhere to draw order will be eliminated. While draw order is preferable in Arena 2 and 3, both arenas will run using a whiteboard draw. Competitors in Arena 2 and 3 are to advise the marshal if they are scratching from a class once it has started. Riders not presenting to the marshal within five minutes after the ‘Final Call’, risk missing their class. Riders who are competing outdoors on multiple horses in the one class are asked to organise their rounds and not present at the end of the class with multiple horses to ride.

REFUNDS

Refunds will not be given for entries once the show has commenced. Refunds will not be given for missed classes, eliminations or classes incorrectly entered.

CHANGE TO CLASSES

Changes using Live Editing cannot be made on the day, editing must made the day prior.

An exception to changes will only apply to a class still running after the 4.00pm cut-off time. In the case of horse/rider safety, riders in a late class have half an hour after the completion of the said class to make a change at the office for the next day of competition.

An on the spot admin fee will be charged per class for any change made at the Event Office. Credit card and EFTPOS facilities will be available

TOUR FINAL QUALIFYING SYSTEM

Rankings to select competitors for Tour Finals will be determined as follows: Riders will be allocated points according to their result in each qualifier. The first placed starter is allocated as many points as there are starters plus one (1), the remaining competitors will receive points in descending order down to the last placed rider who is allocated one (1) point. For example, in a class with 30 starters, the first placed rider is allocated 31 points, second place 29 points and so on, down to last place who is allocated one point. Points from both Qualifiers will be added together to determine the competitors that will compete in Tour Finals and their seeding.

WORLD CUP QUALIFIER HORSES

World Cup horses must not leave the grounds after their FEI check-in. World Cup competitors must have a stable card (supplied by OC) visible on their World Cup horses stable PRESENTATION

– All Indoor Arena classes: mounted presentation – Tour Classes: mounted presentation

– Futurity Class: mounted presentation

– All other Classes: ribbons to be collected from the Event Office.

CONDUCT

All competitors, horse owners, grooms, representatives and associates are obliged from their arrival at AELEC, and for duration of the event, to acknowledge and abide by the ‘Codes of Conduct’. Violation of these codes will be dealt with by the respective Ground Jury or Appeal Committee in accordance with the rules and regulations of EA.

It is expected that all competitors and their support teams will adhere to the rules of the competition, and show respect for fellow competitors, their horses, officials, administrators and volunteers.

The Organising Committee, Technical Delegate/s, Ground Jury and Officials are responsible for ensuring the following are observed:

– FEI Code of Conduct for the Welfare of the Horse

– All Equestrian Australia Codes of Conduct

– FEI Code of Conduct for Competitors

– Code of Conduct for Warm-up Arenas

COMPLAINTS AND PROTESTS

All complaints or protests related to the event, whether valid or not, to be presented in legible writing, accompanied by $50 and signed by a single, clearly identified person. Protests must be received within 15 minutes of the completion of the class. When on behalf of a group, one nominated person must sign it on their behalf. Whether any letter of complaint or protest is acted upon is at the sole discretion of the Organising Committee.

VOLUNTEERS

EA STALLION POLICY

For riders under the age of 18 wishing to compete on a stallion, please refer to the Stallion Safe Practice rules and regulations on the EA website. These regulations also apply to grooms/handlers of colts/stallions who are under 18 years.

HORS CONCOURS (HC)

HC entries will only be accepted at the committee’s discretion. Any HC start will render that horse non-competitive for that day across all three arenas.

STABLING AND CAMPING

Stabling and camping is overseen by AELEC. NNWSJC cannot assist with any questions or issues that arise in relation to this.

AMENDMENTS TO THE EVENT

The event will be run under EA/FEI rules. The Organising Committee reserves the right to alter or amend any of the conditions, regulations or any aspect of the event.

DAMAGES

All owners and competitors will be personally responsible for damages to any third parties caused by themselves, their employees, their agents or their horses.
