Week 11

Week 11 March 24 - March 27 This week was brief. We finally reached Unit 9.5 and began discussing Folklore early in the week. The students seem to be knowledgeable of this subject and appear to be understanding it. It is material that is familiar to them either through school or past experiences since folklore constitutes a large portion of our culture. Behavior-wise, the classroom could go better. Again, I feel like they are getting too familiar with their comfort zone and do not seem to want to get out of it. This applies for both groups I am teaching, 9-1 and 9-2. Following folklore, were able to discuss the vocabulary of a Folk Tale they will be reading next week (Yeh-Shen) and they have gotten familiar with the vocabulary used which will make reading more fun for them. In regards to other areas of practice teaching, my peer, Dianel Santos and I are having trouble finding funds for our special project. We sent out letters to ask for cooperation from local stores and companies, and all of them claim that many schools have asked for funds since last August for either graduations or trips. It is really disappointing since my peer and I want to focus on technology within the classroom and are not able to do so unless we have funds. We are found in a position where now we’ll have to focus trying to get funds from the municipality itself or (hopefully) the mayor of Humacao.
