Standard: Speaking

Most effective This lesson plan focused on the standard of speaking. It was one of the best classes I have given in general because there were no setbacks at any moment. All of the goals for this class were met and it was mostly due to the fact that students were highly active and motivated. For this class I had made special seating arrangements and when the students arrived they were intrigued by what would be happening in the class. That day I was able to see the importance creating a good classroom environment because in this case, this was one of the biggest contributors to the effectiveness of the class. For this class, there was also a lot of repetition which was a part of methodology that I hadn’t engaged in before that moment, so I was surprised to see how well it worked for the class. I always had a negative perception of repetition since I sensed it as boring but it was a good way to present the material and the students really enjoyed it. Least Effective This class was considered the least effective in the standard of speaking due to student performance. During this class, students were asked to orally present and explain the Greek deity they had created. They had been told to come to class prepared but unfortunately they didn’t do so. When it came time to present their deity, a lot of the students read from index cards and mumbled the words out. It was clear they didn’t know their own material and this is something that applied to all of the groups. None of the students were prepared and those groups that did well were only able to do so because one of the students would be prepared. This happened to at

least three of the groups. It was definitely disconcerting and the students noticed the lack of preparation in each other.
