Hi, I’m Meet, a graduate from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies (KRVIA). After five years of academia and sometime in practice, I have realised that I design intutively and surely trust my gut. For me, architecture is not just building making but more about conscious detailing through narration at various scales for varied human experiences.

Won 3rd Position at IIA - Design Dissertation Awards - 2021 brief_
The thesis specifically looks at the two-knowledge holding and disseminating bodies - the school and the library, and how these environments can be made inclusive and accessible across various age groups. It critically looks at the existing state-run schools and libraries & using the government’s New Education Policy and a base, the thesis looks at creating inclusive learning environments within a neighbourhood.
The aim is to discover opportunities and access to resources that propagate curiosity to learn, by turning institutions into truly a public resource.
The functioning of a school is like a coded machine where the commands are loaded on a prior basis and expected to function as per the codes. There is no change in the learning environment nor there are modalities in the learning experiences.
There is fixity in the number of times you can use a particular space in a week. For example, the library and the computer lab can be accessed once in a week on a given lecture. The play time is separated out from the learning time.

Public School
To conclude the study, the aim is to eliminate the divide between the municipal school and the neighborhood it’s located in and how can these schools be then designed as the functioning will be flexible and adaptable by different user groups throughout the day.
Can the municipal school be repurposed for the after school hours use and activate its ‘second life’ for the neighbourhood community?
School as a “fortress”
The aim is basically to transform the library to become the third space for the neighborhood and to look at ways to keep itself relevant in the upcoming future. Libraries today, fails to spark an excitement in people and is often seen as dead institutions not meant for the general masses.
How can the libraries of today facilitate multi-modal engagement with information?

The windows makes one think if its jail. The school has restriced access which is for a particular age group. Can the public school be a common resource for learning for everyone irrespective of the age?
The aim is to take these acts as a base and find possibilities for different architectural and programmatic settings

The school layout is designed in a way that alters the idea of a corridor space as just a movement function. Here, the classrooms tend to open out in the common area which becomes a secondary space for learning and engagement.

The intent of the Bridge Studio has always been to bridge the world of Academia and Practice, to bridge Students with Professionals directly. The studio ‘New Urban Artefacts’ by Rahul Gore and Jignesh Doshi aims to delve into notions of space making keeping in mind the urban infrastructure of our times.
Metro stations built in Mumbai are derived from pure functionality and are usually alienated from the city’s urban density mainly due to its modular design.
The academic bridge studio project is a reimagination of the proposed Bandra Metro station for the upcoming Metro Line 2B running from Dahisar - Mandala.

Being an elevated transit station proposed in an already congested neighborhood, the proposal intends to respond to the various urban forces of the site and design a station that threads well within the fabric whilst acknowledging the transit anatomies that co-exist along with it. It aims to create an experience for the user, be it a daily commuter or a person walking/driving underneath the elevated concourse by effectively reducing the main bulk of the station with several formal and programmatic strategies.

Armaan Self-Redevelopment Apartment Building | Mumbai
Year 2021

at Gaurav Roy Chaudhury Architects [grca], Bangalore Role Project Architect
Reetha and Deepa Balsavar have lived all their lives at their ancestral home, Armaan built by the father in Santacruz West.
They took a bold decision to self-redevelop the property but keeping clear ideas of community, family, childhood, belonging, sustainibility and reality. These ideas differed from the developer mentality and the city’s system of money making.
The building sits on a small 375 sq.m corner site. As per client’s feasibility, the decision was to make G+9 storey with one 3BHK apartment on every floor.

Idea was to keep the main circulation bare minimum where it takes the least external surface. This gives rest of the apartment with most frontage.
The interior passage ways were designed for zero wastage. The common spaces - living, dining, balcony, kitchen were facing the north east and the corner of the site for maximum open view.
The entire common space would feel like a big verandah when all the windows are opened.
A continuous green strip was designed throughout the periphery of the apartment where a kitchen garden with herbs and microgreens and around the house different local species of fruit and flowering plants were imagined.
Balconies are designed to be staggered where families can interact with each other.

One of the projects I was working on was a school by Azim Premji Foundation at Sirohi and Tonk in Rajasthan.
As part of their nationwide grassroots education program, APF is in the process of setting up Schools and District Institutes in different parts of rural India, typically socio-economically backward areas. The targeted student profile is similar to those attending government schools in the region.
Schools proposed are of the K-12 type and would work in conjunction with District Institutes engaged in regional teacher training, outreach programs and liaison with government agencies.

Architecture of the Parikrama
Site Bramhand Ghat, Gokul
Collaborator Hetvi Sheth
Exhibited at KRVIA
CEPT- Lilavati Lalbhai Library
Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad
moderated by Srinivas Murthy
The design project initiated by a documentation exercise of the existing religious landscape of Braj - Mathura, Gokul, Vrindavan and Govardhan. Each site has its own narrative: historical and mythical.
The learnings from heritage studies have largely been through measured drawings and documentation of buildings that hold a certain architectural value. However, they fail to give a sense of the intangible cultural heritage where the very roots of these building practices can be traced back to. the nuances of the space are as important as the tectonics of the place. Hence, it goes beyond the limitations of a Cartesian drawing; it acts as a narrative which then becomes a major tool to understand the making of the built fabric that has evolved over time.
The journey of this exhibition was about the process that really took it from a germ of an idea, to a complete exhibition born out of the collective effort of a batch of eighty. 07

The studio focuses on studying the current patterns of development in and around the lake. The proposals hence present a new direction for revival of the hydrological patterns, the lake edge, the local communities that reside in and around the area and the lake itself. It is a vision based on respecting the fundamental ecological principles that deal with ways to expand and revive the buffer zones, employing strategies to increase public accessibility to the lake and improving the quality of urban living in the city.

The railway station constructed on a bund obstructed the clusters of residential housing units, industrial warehouses and commercial shops. This caused the Hussain Sagar lake to be completely blocked off to various user groups.
The key strategy of the project is to connect commuters of different age and occupational groups through different modes of transport along the stretch and bring them towards the lakes edge.
This project is imagined to completely reactivate the lakes edge , and as something to give back to the public life of the city of Hyderabad.

Building the Imaginary School
The Imaginary school of KRVIA is built collectively under five themes by groups of first-year students from across the country ‘‘virtually’’ - like an exquisite corpse project. These ideas were brought together in one space on Miro, overlaying the spaces of KRVIA with these narratives.
Hidden in the nooks and crevices of KRVIA, lie spaces unbeknown to the masters. It is here that a parallel universe comes to life. A place of secret celebrations and gatherings to solitary hidings. This is a network fueled by the students, seeking an escape from the everyday. Where monotonies are broken and revelations are made. The school becomes a place for discoveries and for unravelling hidden treasures. Where spaces of working, eating, sleeping, gossiping and relaxing are carved seamlessly. It is when students claim the space as their own that activities emerge organically. It is here that people fall in love, make friends and collect life altering experiences. This parallel network exists along with the school- presenting itself to those who seek it. The drawing attempts to explore this network that binds all these hidden corners across the school, through day and night. The narratives construct the school’s form unfolding through a play of light and shade.

The onward march of technology and evolving urban priorities have rendered the traditional post office, somewhat an outdated institution. The project aims to resolve how the institution’s identity can be revitalized and made more fluid to meet the needs of several community groups in an environment which becomes more and more globalised.
Infused with elements of fun, a place to work together, a centre of learning - the structure goes beyond its core function to meet the evolving needs of the surrounding community.

The measure draw exercise was to document the Qila Mubarak Fortress dated back to 110 AD. The function of ornament, fragility, thick robust brick walls is all evident in the construction of this fort. The architecture surrounding it followed similar methods of construction of spanning methods. Thus, one was able to draw conclusions regarding the growth of the city with the Qila Mubarak Complex as the epicenter.
The exercise was in complete collaboration with Abha Narain Lambah Associates.
Walia Residence
The residence of the Ministers of the King who ruled Patiala in the 19th century, the Walia House, is constructed in three different eras as and when the Walia family bought the land. The architecture of the house is mainly influenced by that of the Fort with various styles of fenestrations, mostly with a segmental arch over it. The parapet is adorned by balustrades. The load of the house is mainly taken by jack arches and joists through load bearing walls, which is the generic typology of Patiala.

A tight and narrow plot of 5m wide and 15m depth on which a house for a family of 8-10 people and a work space on the ground level had to be designed and executed. As it is a joint family, the idea of privacy and commons were looked at specifically. The intention was to maximise on space and storage, while bringing in quality natural light into the deep plot.
All the openings were planned within the cantilevers, this allows light and ventialtion even incase of new construction next door. A big skylight was given in the centre of the house above the vertical spine to draw sunlight at all levels.
The vertical spine holds the dining area, an opening to the verandah and kids play area, a small library, and a big skylight at the top which gets sunlight into the house.

Hence, when not in use, all the chairs slide under the table, especially the smaller ones allowing clear movement space.

brief_
The box used for the packaging of the products needed to be reutilised in order to minimize the waste generated. Printing infant stimulation cards on one side of the box was introduced, such that the consumer could use those cards for their little ones, rather than doing away with the entire box. This series consisting of 6 animals is inspired by the artwork if Enzo Mari & would help in stimulating the babys cognitive development.
