Medical Transportation: What are the Different Modes? Medical transportation plays a vital role in getting the patient to emergency care quickly during a disaster, medical emergency, or other accident. According to a recent study, nearly 3.6 million people are unable to receive treatment or are delayed by the lack of proper medical transportation.

A patient's need for transport will determine the type of ambulance to be used. Emergency Medical Transport and Non-Emergency Medical Transportation are the two types of ambulances. Non-Emergency Medical Transportation It is a service that provides trips from and to scheduled medical appointments to help individuals avoid costly travel. Patients who need transportation to and from medical facilities for routine check-ups and appointments can take advantage of this service. Some of the NEMTs are, 

Ambulatory Service - These mobile services are useful for patients who do not require any equipment for walking and need only basic support. They are best suited to patients who do not require a time-critical emergency. Wheelchair Services - Most of the time, the vans and wheelchair lifts are operated by CPR-trained drivers, which is helpful, especially for patients who are unable to walk on their own. Stretcher - Medical transport is beneficial for patients who cannot sit due to issues with their spinal cord. Patients are transferred while lying on stretchers.

Emergency Medical Transportation Emergency Medical transport facilities are vital to the recovery and saving of lives during emergency situations. The lives of those patients can be saved if all predefined lifesaving parameters are met during the transport.
