SPECIALIST IN THE PRE VENTION A N D T R E AT M E N T O F F O O T A N D ANKLE CONDITIONS We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Andrew Goldberg OBE MD FRCS(Tr&Orth) to lead our foot and ankle services as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. Mr Goldberg has 25 years’ of experience both teaching and practising within the NHS, where he also helped to establish one of the UK’s leading research centres in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. Notable successes of the centre include winning competitive tenders for research grants, including a multimillion pound NIHR HTA randomised clinical trial which successfully recruited over 300 patients. Above all else, on behalf of HCA UK Mr Goldberg provides integrated and multidisciplinary foot and ankle care to the highest of standards to adults and children across our campus. His practice is entirely evidence-based, patient-focused and outcomes driven.

ANKLE REPL ACEMENT S Arthritis in the ankle can be particularly painful and affect an individual’s quality of life, making simple everyday tasks such as getting up to make a cup of tea near to impossible. After non-operative treatments have been exhausted, ankle fusion and ankle replacement surgery become realistic treatment options. Ankle fusion connects a patient’s bones together with screws to stop movement. Whilst this is a successful treatment, because the joint can no longer move stresses can occur in other joints around the foot and ankle, and even in the knees or spine, putting the patient at risk of further wear and tear in those joints.

A N K L E R E P L AC E M E NT Similar to hip and knee replacements, ankle replacements allow movement in the joint to be retained, with the aim of improving function and reducing the amount of stress placed on other joints. Mr Goldberg is at the forefront of research into the outcomes and effectiveness of ankle replacement technology. He pioneered the introduction of the patient-specific PROPHECY™ instrumentation technique, which enables joint replacements to be personalised to the patient’s anatomy and thus perfectly tailored to the needs of each individual patient.
