Sport Briefs Rebels AGM
■ The Alexandra Football-Netball Club met onWednesday, October 27 for the Annual General Meeting. After presentation of the Club’s 2021 Financial Report and President’s Report, all executive positions were declared vacant with the following appointments subsequently made: President – Ray Steyger, Senior VicePresident – Sam Kidd, Junior Vice-President – to be confirmed, Treasurer – Ray Steyger and Secretary – Kylie Cairns. A big thank you to Peter McKenzie. He has stepped down from the executive due to work commitments, after having made a significant contribution to the Club. A number of enthusiastic people have pledged to assist the Club on several Committees and if anyone is interested in joining the Club in any capacity, please don’t hesitate in contacting Ray Steyger on 5772 2627, everyone is welcome. The Club was pleased to have a number of coaching applications which were discussed and the following appointments made for the 2022 season: Reserves coach Scott Ferrier and senior coach Nick Wal had already been re-appointed, Under 17 football and senior netball coaches are pending whilst junior netball coaches appointed were Under 13, Emma Kidd, and Under 15, Penny Van Lierop ,re-appointed. Junior football coach appointments were for Under 9, Sam Kidd; Under 11, Cameron Gysberts; Under 13, Rebecca Clark re-appointed; Under 15, Daniel Crane and Brad Howell. ★ In late 2015, the Alexandra FootballNetball Club commenced an aluminium can recycling project. Key aim of the project is to reduce the amount of material going into landfill as well as providing some income for the Club. As at September, the project has collected more than 8500 kilograms of aluminium cans which have been recycled. The project is ongoing, organised by Ray ‘Fox’ Chanter, Richard Jack, Michael Harper and Ray Steyger. You will find wheelie bins with red lids marked “cans only” near the entry gate at theAlexandra Showgrounds and Recreation Reserve. If you have aluminium cans (crushed if possible), please deposit them in the bins. If you have any questions, please contact Ray Steyger on 5772 2627. The Rebels’ growth into the future is dependent on everyone getting involved as we intend to make a positive impact on and off the field with juniors and seniors’ football and netball in 2022. Yea Golf Club Foursomes Men Wednesday saw 14 men in 7 teams play alternate shots – foursomes. Winners were Brendan Chenhall (15) and Rob O’Halloran (20) with a nett 69.5. Second were Russell Wealands (22) and Alan Pell (14) with 71 from third Bill Dredge (20) and Neil Ross(34) with 74.5. There was no NTP on the 2nd and the Club Award went to Mick Sheather and Neil Peterson. ★ John Phillips Wins Saturday Some 24 men played a 4 Stick Stableford Event on Saturday. Winner with 36 points was John Phillips (20). Second with 35 was Alan Pell (14) with Steve Rumney (28) third with 34. John Tanner(22) was fourth on CB from Gary Pollard (12) with 33 each. David Ngo was NTP on the 2nd and Brendan Chenhall won the Club Award. Chooklotto winner was Tony Rule, and the Stubbie holder went to Phil Armstrong. - Alan Pell

History grants
■ Grants of up to $600 are now available to fund history and/or heritage projects within the Nillumbik Shire. Mayor Cr Peter Perkins said history and heritage contributes strongly to shaping our community. “Activities involving history and heritage enrich our lives, allow us to share our stories and explore what has passed, whilst also informing the future,” he said.
News Briefs New NE Link plans
■ New designs have been released for the North East Link Project, including: ■ a longer tunnel ■ a simpler interchange at lower plenty. Banyule Council says it is looking forward to a full briefing. Cr Tom Melican, Mayor, said:“We’ve not seen the detail yet, but the longer tunnel and a simplified Lower Plenty Rd interchange are really positive improvements to the design.” “We’ve worked really hard with our community over many years to show that these improvements make complete sense, environmentally and for the overall design. “It’s a win, that some of what we worked hard for is now locked in and we are getting clearer on what will actually be delivered “Upgrades to the Watsonia station are still a missing piece, especially with such a big new carpark,” Cr Melican said.

■ The City of Darebin annual report, accompanied by an auditor’s report, is due to be discussed at its meeting to be held on Monday, November 22. A copy of the annual; report can be viewed at the Counci’s website. A Planning Committee meeting was held on Monday this week (Nov. 8). In addition to the November 22 meeting, a special meeting is planned to be held on Wednesday, November 24, at which the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected. That meeting will be held at the Preston Town Hall, and according to an advertisement in newspaper, only limited public access will be available.
Draft Local Law
■ The Draft Nillumbik General Local Law is now open for community feedback, after being endorsed at last month’s Council meeting. The Council received more than 700 public submissions earlier this year ahead of the review of the Amenity Local Law (2013), which covers a range of objectives including behaviour in public places; the number of animals that can be kept, and open air burning, and the Infrastructure Assets Local Law (2013), which canvases topics such as stormwater drains and Council asset protection. Nillumbik Council considered a range of ideas and suggestions to prepare the Draft General Nillumbik Local Law. Mayor Cr Peter Perkins thanked those who submitted ideas and comments to inform the draft, and said he looks forward to the community’s feedback. “I encourage everyone to have their say on the draft, because local law reviews only happen once every 10 years,” Cr Perkins said.
Sale of road
■ Darebin Council is planning to sell the 6.10m wide discontinued road at the rear of 7 Dumbarton St and 55 Dundee St Reservoir. It is Council’s intention to sell the land from the former road to the owner of 7 Dumbarton St, Reservoir, by private treaty
