He served as Mayor in 2015 and Deputy Mayor in 2017 and 2020. Cr Magee said that it was an incredibly proud moment to be elected as Mayor: “To represent the residents of Glen Eira on a Councillor level is a privilege, but representing our Council as Mayor, is truly an honour,” he said. “Over the next 12 months, I am looking forward to seeing a number of important capital works projects take shape, including the commencement of the Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool redevelopment, and the completion of Lord Reserve Pavilion, Murrumbeena Community Hub and the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub. “It will also be very exciting to see Moongala Women’s Community House move into a new home at Moorleigh Village in Bentleigh East.” Cr Magee’s family emigrated from Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1970. ■ Parking limits will be reinstated across Boroondara residential areas from this week. The limits will return to time restricted zones near hospitals and medical centres, Centrelink offices and shopping centre car parks. “We relaxed our parking enforcement due to the recent COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. But we're now seeing the community open up again and the demand for parking has returned,” said a Council representative. “With the increase in movement around Boroondara, the return of limits and enforcement will ensure vehicle turnover in high traffic areas and help maintain balanced access for all,” the representative said. ■ A detective senior constable from the eastern region has been charged following an internal investigation. The 32-year-old male officer was charged with two counts of unauthorised access to Police information. The charges relate to incidents that allegedly occurred while the officer was on duty between November and December, 2020. He has been summonsed to appear at a magistrates’ court at a later date.

Boost for CBD venues

■ A boost for cafes and restaurants, bigger Christmas events, pop-up attractions and new business support will turbo-charge the CBD’s recovery as workers and visitors return to Melbourne’s heart. A $44 million package unveiled by the State Government and the City of Melbourne will inject renewed life into the city over summer. First initiatives from the $200 million jointly-funded Melbourne City Revitalisation Fund include a new Midweek Melbourne Money scheme, which follows the successful Melbourne Moneyprogram that generated $40 million in revenue for city cafes and restaurants in June and July. From Monday (Nov. 15) diners will be enticed into the CBD with significant savings when they visit destinations like Flinders Lane between Monday and Thursday.
