Debate has ensued on how the media covered the Westgate shopping mall terror attack that occurred on 21st September 2013, especially in observing the professional obligation as required by Code of Conduct for the Practice of Journalism in Kenya and social responsibility in commenting on public issues while at the same time respecting the limitation to freedom of expression on national security grounds.
It is in response to these concerns that the Council carried out an extensive media monitoring exercise on how the media covered the attack,that is documented here.
