HAIR

Thought up-dos were just for weddings? Think again. Slightly mussed-up chignons have been big news on the AW16 catwalks, along with oh-so-casual ponytails tied at the nape of the neck. Natural hair in general is back, from ‘hippy’ to ‘just woke up’ to ‘fresh out the shower’ and all gradations between. That said, we all like a bit of glam in the festive season. The AW16 catwalks were full of gorgeous hair embellishments which can work for all hair lengths, with clips being used to pin back one side of a sleek bob or tucked into a glam up-do. “For longer hair, a relaxed chignon is a great way to give a party-ready look. Or putting a wave through shorter hair can make it look totally different,” says Greg James of Goji Hair. “We also fit a lot of Great Lengths hair extensions at this time of year – the ultimate party accessory!”

MAKE UP

According to Vogue, it’s all about a blackcurrant lip, graphic eyeline and glitter on your cheekbones. Let’s take those one by one. Lippie: go no lighter than red wine, and as dark as gothic black. Eyes: forget those chic little Audrey Hepburn flicks you’ve been doing for years,

and frame your peepers with almost-ridiculous graphic sweeps, like you’ve been doodled on by your teenage niece.

NAILS

Elaborate nail art remains huge. But this winter those in-the-know are also rocking ‘The new French’. Think traditional French manicure, but instead of white tips, they’re primary-coloured. Or glittery. Or on a slant. Or you’ve added some horizontal lines across the nails, or around the outer edges. Instant minimalist chic. Colourwise, the hottest choices are moody metallics or pretty pastels. Whatever you select for your nails, be sure to hold your fizz at shoulder level so everybody can admire them.

BROWS

Big, bushy brows have been mainstream for yonks now and, inevitably, the pendulum is starting to swing. We’re talking about the ‘anti-brow’ or ‘no brow’. In other words: bleached, or at least not drawing attention to themselves in any way. Just not massive and fake-black. Got that? It’s also pretty cool to add bright liner or glitter under or above the natural contour line of the browline: see Georgia May Jagger and Gigi Hadid on the AW16 catwalks. www.mediaclash.co.uk I CARDIFF LIFE I 35
