verseen by consultant plastic surgeon Mr Richard Karoo FRCS(Plast) and clinic director Hayley Redway, The Cardiff Clinic is the most exclusive clinic of this type in the city, bridging the gap between cosmetic surgery, non-surgical cosmetics and beauty skin therapies. What gave you the idea of creating The Cardiff Clinic? Over many years of practice, we had seen the number of patients requesting non-surgical treatments increasing, wanting their treatment to be undertaken with a qualified plastic surgeon. Over time, it was felt that to create a luxury boutique setting – as one would expect in London – was long overdue in Cardiff. Cathedral Road in Pontcanna felt like the perfect setting. The setting, in your Victorian town house, is indeed lovely, but what about the treatments on offer? When it comes to our treatments, we aim for a natural, refreshed look, delivered by the

appropriate highly trained members of the team. Our philosophy is simple – to provide patients with honest and safe advice. From the initial consultation, treatment, and through to your aftercare, we aim for the highest standards of care and quality possible, giving you a positive experience. Treatments can range from anti-wrinkle injections, fillers for mid-face, nasal and lip enhancement, chemical peels and semipermanent make-up, all the way to the awardwinning Exilis Elite body contouring machine and advice on cosmetic surgery procedures. So I guess this broad spectrum of knowledge is your USP? Absolutely! The fact that we can direct the patient to a sensible solution to their cosmetic needs with the help of a plastic surgeon means that no-one coming to the clinic is offered a limited treatment range. Armed with sound advice, it is then for the patient to decide how they wish to proceed. Hayley, have you had any treatments yourself, or are there particular ones you would recommend? Personally, the only treatment I’ve had is with the Exilis Elite body contouring/skin tightening device – this worked really well on my thighs and arms. We are the only clinic in Wales with this machine, and patients from Bristol and the South West have travelled to us for this treatment. For body contouring, the hand-piece is placed on the skin, reducing fatty deposits and tightening areas of mild skin laxity, with no downtime. Of course, if large pockets of fat or excessive skin laxity are present, surgery is the only sensible solution.
Why do you think cosmetic treatments have grown in popularity in recent years? We all like to take some pride in our appearance, be it the way we apply makeup, style our hair, work out in the gym or by the clothes we wear, but when undertaken well, cosmetic surgery and non-surgical cosmetic treatments, can also be a truly positive experience to make you feel good about yourself. Whether socially or at work, one’s selfconfidence can dramatically change – posttreatment, many of our patients find a real spring in their step. Seeing positive results and receiving thanks from all those we’ve helped is what makes this field such a pleasurable one to specialise in. So, what’s next for The Cardiff Clinic? We have just launched our beauty rooms. Our beauty therapist Lisa has a range of treatments from massages to facials using Jan Marini products. Lisa offers free skin consultations, and – especially at this time of year – she gives advice on protecting the skin from UV damage. Overall, we will continue to focus on high quality aesthetic treatments for all of our patients and, as always, provide sound, honest advice.
