£40k clean-up for centre of Bath
Six weeks of action planned after numerous complaints from local residents THE centre of Bath is to receive a major clean-up over coming weeks, as part of a £40,000 investment after numerous complaints from local residents about the state of the area. For the next six weeks, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s cleansing team will provide extended periods of high-quality cleaning and washing, from early in the morning until late into the
evening, including weekends. More staff will be brought in to pick up litter, empty litter bins and wash streets. Councillor Dave Wood (Lib Dem, Mendip) cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “The new council administration is taking action after listening to complaints by residents of dirty, rubbish-strewn streets and over-flowing bins in our historic

Council outlines plans and timeline for 2030 carbon neutral goal BATH & North East Somerset Council has released a timetable and published information about their immediate plans to address the climate emergency, and their overall ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030. The council declared a climate emergency in March this year and added the new ‘Responding
to the Climate Emergency’ button on their website’s home page to set out its approach for the coming months. The new button takes website visitors to a timeline of the council’s actions up until now and for the coming months. Since March, development of the first Climate Emergency report
on action planning has begun and will be presented to full Council in October. In July, the Leader of Bath and North East Somerset Council, Dine Romero, led the initiative that resulted in the West of England Combined Authority declaring a climate emergency and carbon neutrality by 2030.
Cllr Romero said: “Bath and North East Somerset Council is making good progress on the development of the first Climate Emergency report. “We will soon have more detail on the area’s carbon footprint and options on how to reach our 2030 carbon neutral goal. “This report will include
the proposals for a Climate Emergency, Environment and Place Partnership to provide the leadership and drive to make things happen quickly. “It will also include proposals for engagement across the community – including citizens’ assemblies. This is when we ... Continued on page 2
