Raúl Ruiz (1941-2011) was Chile’s greatest filmmaker. His films were presented at the Cannes Film Festival fifteen times, six of them within the Official Selection. La Noche de Enfrente is his posthumous work, completed shortly before he died, and was selected for the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes 2012. Raúl Ruiz (1941-2011) fue el mayor cineasta chileno de la historia. Sus películas participaron quince veces en el Festival de Cannes, seis de ellas en Selección Oficial. La noche de enfrente es su obra póstuma, terminada poco antes de morir, y ha sido seleccionada en la Quincena de Realizadores de Cannes 2012.

We are happy and want to share that emotion. 2012 began with many joys for Chilean cinema. Films like Violeta se fue a los cielos (Andrés Wood), Joven y Alocada (Marialy Rivas), De Jueves a Domingo (Dominga Sotomayor) and Bonsái (Cristián Jiménez) won the most important awards at Sundance, Rotterdam and Miami. Like concentric waves, this recognition spread to Berlin and Guadalajara, leaving us in excitement and expectancy for what will come during the rest of the year. In the spirit of celebration, we thus made the third Edition of the CinemaChile Catalog, sharing with the world the new crop of films for export. This year we feature a space to honor filmmakers who have been awarded internationally. We are not only happy and proud of the awards. It is also cause for celebration to present a body of films where young talent coexists with filmmakers who premiered their fourth film this year and whose name is already recognized in the relevant circuits of international cinema: where the epic meets
the simple story to strengthen a cinematic tradition under construction. Diversity remains a prominent feature of our exports. Chile is a country not much given to celebrations. In fact, for many our film industry is closer to an introspective and sometimes tragic character. However, for our cinema to have travelled from the margins of the West towards the most important film centers in the world, is a reason to deploy in these pages a spirit whose visual analogy might well be that of clinking glasses of champagne. More so, when we find that the movement flows both ways, as from several parts of the world festival directors, programmers and specialists place their gaze on Chile, searching for new voices and stories which stand out for their authenticity and originality.
Chile is already internationally recognized as one of the most attractive cinemas in the region. This is no accident.
It is the actual results of a coordinated action between all relevant parties in the industry, public and private, articulated in an innovative brand, efficient and essential to the international campaign of the audiovisual production in Chile: CinemaChile. In merely two years of the brand’s existence, such achievements portend a bright future for Chilean cinema. But no need in waiting to see this happen: the following pages portray a conclusive example of the strength and vibrancy of our industry. We hope you enjoy it. Estamos contentos y queremos compartir esa emoción. El 2012 comenzó con múltiples alegrías para el cine chileno. Las películas Violeta se fue a los cielos (Andrés Wood), Joven y Alocada (Marialy Rivas), De jueves a domingo (Dominga Sotomayor) y Bonsái (Cristián Jiménez) obtuvieron los premios más importantes de Sundance, Rotterdam y Miami. Como ondas concéntricas, los reconocimientos se propagaron por Berlín y Guadalajara dejándonos entusiasmados y expectantes para lo que queda del año. Con ánimo de festejo, entonces, confeccionamos la tercera edición del catálogo CinemaChile, que lanza al mundo la nueva cosecha de filmes de exportación y que este año incorpora un espacio para homenajear a aquellos cineastas que han sido galardonados internacionalmente. No sólo nos alegran y enorgullecen los galardones. También es motivo de celebración presentar un corpus de películas en donde conviven jóvenes talentos con cineastas
que estrenarán su cuarto largometraje durante este año y cuyo nombre ya es reconocido en los circuitos más relevantes del cine internacional; donde la épica se encuentra con la pequeña historia contribuyendo a robustecer una tradición cinematográfica en construcción. La diversidad sigue siendo un rasgo destacado de nuestra oferta exportable. Chile no es un país muy dado a los festejos. De hecho, para muchos nuestra cinematografía reciente da cuenta de un temple más bien introspectivo y trágico. Sin embargo, que nuestro cine haya logrado transitar desde los márgenes de Occidente hacia los centros cinematográficos más relevantes del mundo, nos da razones para desplegar en estas páginas un ánimo cuya analogía visual podría perfectamente coincidir con dos copas de champagne chocando entre sí. Más todavía cuando constatamos que el tránsito tiene un flujo en dos direcciones, pues desde diversos puntos del globo directores de festivales, programadores y especialistas dirigen su mirada hacia Chile en busca de nuevas
voces y relatos que destacan por su autenticidad y originalidad.
Chile ya es reconocido internacionalmente como una de las cinematografías más atractivas de la región. Esto no es casual. Son los resultados concretos de una gestión coordinada entre todos los actores relevantes de la industria, públicos y privados, articulados bajo una marca innovadora, eficiente y esencial para la internacionalización del sector productivo audiovisual chileno: CinemaChile. Semejantes logros en tan sólo dos años de existencia de la marca auguran un futuro alentador para el cine chileno. 16º Santiago International Documentary Film Festival. Founded in 1997 by documentary filmmaker Patricio Guzmán, FIDOCS is focused in the point of view of the directors. Currently this is longest running documentary film festival in Chile, and one of the most important in Latin America. We take submissions from Chilean and Latin American directors competition.
The Chilean International Short Film Festival of Santiago, FeSanCor is the only one devoted exclusively to the language of the Short film industry and all of his categories, fiction, documentary, animation and experimental.
El Festival Internacional de Documentales de Santiago fundado en 1997 por el documentalista Patricio Guzmán, hace énfasis en el punto de vista de los cineastas sobre el mundo.
