1 Supreme Court decision on race-conscious admissions:
- Goingforward,admissionspracticeswill bereshapedbytheSupremeCourt'sdecisiontorestrict the considerationof racein collegeadmissions.
- Manycolleges anduniversities havepubliclyaffirmedtheir belief inthevalueof adiverseandinclusive learningenviornment, but theyareworkingthissummer toensurethat their admissionspracticescomply withthelaw.
- Goingforward,manycollegeswill focusonrecruitment effortsaimedat low-incomestudents,first generationstudents,rural students,communitycollegetransfers,andother underrepresentedgroups Additonally,there'sagrowingconversationabout how legacystatusfiguresintotheadmissionsprocess, particularlyat thenation'smost selectivecolleges WesleyanUniversity,Amherst College,JohnsHopkins University,andCarnegieMellonUniversity,for example, haveall endedlegacyadmissions

Evenasthecollegeadmissionslandscapebecomesmorevolatile, theMVScollegecounseling department continuestosucceedinguidingstudentsthroughacomplicatedprocess.Hereare someof thewaysthat MVSsetsitself apart:
1. Fit, balance, and sanity are prioritized in the face of admissions uncertainty. Withintheintimatesettingof MVS,studentsareknownbytheir collegecounselor, aswell astheir facultyrecommenders.Thecollegecounselor isabletounderstandeachstudent'sambitionsfor collegeandhelpthemfindtheright fit.New toolssuchasScoir, anonlinecollegesearchand planningnetwork, helpstudentsresearchcollegesanduniversitiesandset realisticexpectations for gettingin Thecollegecounselingdepartment hasalsoworkedhardtohavetouchpointswith familiesbeforethecollegeprocessbeginsinearnest, withtheendgoal beingatruefour-year experiencewithcollegecounselingfor studentsandparents
2. MVS' rigorous curriculum and robust graduation requirements set students apart. AnMVSalumhasmet thecurriculumrequirementsfor ~99%of colleges andmajorssimplyby completingMVS' graduationrequirements.Immersionexperiences, our commitment to communityservice, andmentoredreserachopportunitiesarealsodifferentiatorsinthecollege processthat everyMVSgraduatecandemonstrate

3 MVS graduates young people of promise who are lifelong learners and compassionate global citizens.
Collegesanduniversitiesareeager toadmit academicallypreparedstudentswhoaregoingtobuild community, engagewithothersincivil discourse, seek aglobal perspective, andwhoarewillingto takerisksandbeuncomforable. Our approachtothecollegeprocessisgroundedinthebelief that thejourneyisasimportant asthedestinationandthat successincollegeandbeyondisabout so muchmorethangradesandtest scores.
4. MVS encourages deep exploration in areas of interest and promotes intellectual curiosity inside and outside of the classroom
ThroughMVS' experience-basedImmersionMethod,whichincludessignatureprogramssuchas ImmersionTermandtheAriesProject,MVScreatesmyriadopportunitiesfor studentstodive deeplyintotopicsthat areimportant tothem.WhenMVSseniorsgraduate, theyhaveexplored their passions, completedoriginal researchandfieldwork,solvedreal-worldproblems,andsought advicefromadult mentorsbothinsideandoutsideof theschool community Collegesand universitiesholdintellectual curiosityinhighesteemandconsider how prospectivestudents demonstrateacademicandextracurricular passionintheir applicationmaterials.
