Window Treatments – No, They Won’t Ruin Your View Having moved to the Lowcountry from the New York Metro area one thing stood out working with clients. When discussing window treatments, everyone always repeated “I want to preserve my view”. Whether the room in question overlooked a marsh, golf course, wooded area or ocean, it is always the same litany, “Do not ruin my view”. Having shopped for real estate myself, I remembered every Realtor mentioning the view before the other features of the property itself. This home, lot, etc, is desirable because of the view. I do very much enjoy the beautiful place where we live, however, a room rarely feels finished without window treatments. Not just the functional type: plantation shutters, blinds or shades, but also “dressed” with fabric. The functional part of window treatments for privacy, light and glare control, and energy savings is completely necessary. The true “finishing touch” is the “pretty” part from a simple solid linen panel framing the view to a more formal treatment to emphasize the architecture, antiques and finishing of the space.

This “pretty” part also has a function. The soft treatments absorb sound and create intimacy in a space. So many of us have wood or stone floors and the echo factor is greatly softened with the fabric, lining, and interlining. The color and pattern add visual warmth and the overall space has a complete and finished look. In short, your entire rooms’ décor and your view can work

hand in hand to give your home a polished, complete and cohesive look. Submitted by Jennifer Kirkland, ASID Graduate Parson’s School of Design Owner of Carolina Window Designs
