PROJECT OVERVIEW

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In this graphic design project, I will create a identity for an organization whose mission is to provide a service that benefits others through the design and development of a specific local community event.

The project will focus on combining graphic design skills with a socially responsible approach, creating visual materials to effectively communicate the organization’s mission and objectives to serve others in a specific manner through a community-based event and any design-related products (ex. advertising, promotion, environmental, wayfinding, packaging, etc.) that support that service.

Project Goals:

Identify a community in need of a beneficial service. Develop an event that could be used to promote or support that service.

Create a brand identity, wayfinding/signage, or other promotional/eventrelated materials or related (useful) products for the proposed event.

Foster a sense of social responsibility and empathy through design.

ABOUT KNIT N’ LIT

Kit N’ Lit is a community organization that advocates for combining reading and fiber crafts while encouraging collaboration within our local community. Every month, our club members delve into a curated collection of books detailed in our monthly log. They meet weekly to engage in exciting discussions about the narratives. This period also encourages members to pursue their fibercraft hobbies, fostering a culture of sharing and creativity.

We prioritize special community events beyond our regular weekly meetings, like the anticipated Holiday Book Swap. As we prepare for this occasion, we’re thrilled to reveal the upcoming poster designs that capture the event’s themes. Additionally, exclusive merchandise will be available, adding to the excitement of the gathering. Join us as we celebrate the joy of literature, creativity, and community at Kit N’ Lit!

PROCESS WORK

PROCESS STATEMENT

My process started with exploring topics that sparked my interest and could serve as a foundation for hosting an engaging event. I decided to center my brand/event around a fiber art and book club—a combination of two interests that could relate to a large audience. This provided the perfect setting for a book swap event and also allowed for experimenting with typographic styles inspired by stitching and incorporating design elements that reflect my love for both hobbies.

I created a timeline to structure my process, ideating my plan to develop a distinctive brand. Inspired by cross-stitch patterns and vintage Valentine card designs, I named the brand “Knit N’ Lit,” representing the club’s dual focus. The logo, designed to mirror cross-stitch patterning, visually represented the brand’s identity.

With the brand identity solidified, I began the creation of my deliverables, implementing each design with cross-stitch motifs and a wide variety of colors. The goal was to create a sense of boldness and playfulness, ensuring that each design conveyed the various activities of our club.

The final step in my creative process involved using Photoshop to apply a fabric texture to each deliverable. The goal was to connect the digital and handmade-inspired elements, allowing viewers to connect with the tangible, crafted feel of the designs. Overall, my process involved combining my passion for fiber arts and literature, resulting in a visually compelling representation of the Knit N’ Lit brand.
