Université Laval Admission Requirements The educational requirements for admission to Laval Medical School depend on the type of program you completed. Admission requirements vary drastically depending on whether you graduated a three-year CEGEP degree or a four-year undergraduate degree.

The CEGEP is a system unique to the province of Quebec. CEGEP allows students to pursue a technical education after high school to enter the workforce or pursue further education in a university. The system is roughly equivalent to a college diploma in other provinces.

Below is a breakdown of the admission requirements for both CEGEP and university graduates. These requirements include: 











A varying amount of education. Applicants must possess either a three-year CEGEP degree, 12 years of secondary education and one year of specialized higher-education, or two full years of an undergraduate degree.

CEGEP degree holders must: Have a DEC degree in either science or the arts. If the degree is in science, applicants must complete biology and chemistry as prerequisites; if the degree is in arts, applicants must complete mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology prerequisites.

Bachelor’s degree applicants must: Complete two full-time years of undergraduate studies and obtain the same prerequisite courses as CEGEP applicants during their two years of study.

One year of post-secondary study. Applicants who demonstrate that they’ve attained the required prerequisite knowledge during their 12 years of secondary school and one year of post-secondary education may apply.

French language proficiency is required. Applicants who did not complete their secondary or post-secondary education in French must demonstrate French proficiency in accordance with Laval University policy.

Pass the Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI). Applicants who have passed the academic requirements will be invited for an MMI oncampus. This stage of the admission process evaluates students in several small interviews. Each interview evaluates the applicant’s various strengths in professional, clinical, and personal conduct.





MCAT and CASPer tests are not required. Laval Medical School admits students solely on their performance in academics and the MMI. An exception to this rule is international medical graduates seeking admission to the school who are required to complete the CASPer exam and OSCE. Miscellaneous requirements. Successful applicants will be required to present up-to-date immunization tests and a criminal record check.

Tuition and Residency Requirements The University of Laval Medical School predominately accepts Quebec residents. Of the 223 students admitted, only one student from out-ofprovince is accepted per year. Visa students of foreign nationalities are also allotted only one space per year.

To be considered a Quebec resident, an applicant must have either completed CEGEP or high school in Quebec. If the applicant is born in Quebec, or the applicant’s parents or sponsors reside in Quebec, the applicant is considered a Quebec resident.

The tuition fees for ULaval Medical school vary drastically depending on residency and citizenship status. Here’s a breakdown of tuition for the 2018/19 year:   

Quebec Residents: $3,929 Canadian out-of-province applicants: $12,211 Visa applicants: $32,664

Laval Medical School Acceptance rate and Statistics The University of Laval Medical School primarily accepts Quebec residents, with the majority of seats reserved for them yearly. The province of Quebec has restrictions on positions available for Canadians outside of Quebec and international students.

The admission rate for Quebec residents in the 2017/18 year was 7.7%.

Out-of-province applicants had a success rate of 4.9%, while international applicants only 1.4%.
