What is the Kira Talent Interview?

The Kira Talent Interview is a Canadian video based interview platform that allows professional schools to interview prospective applicants by video as a pre-screen before further admissions steps.

Many schools including Canadian, European and American schools only invite applicants for a Skype/in-person interview after they’ve already passed the Kira interviews. This is why the Kira interview is so important. Other schools such as Imperial and EDHEC only use the Kira Interview for their applicants.

So you might be faced with only a Kira Interview or a Kira Interview followed by a skype or in-person interview assessment.

The Kira talent interview questions allow the interviewee to have a holistic look at the applicant, on the basis of which he/she can further judge the applicants on factors such as leadership potential, communication skills, comprehension, drive, leadership and other soft skills.

How is the Kira Talent Interview Used?

Unlike a regular interview, with the Kira Talent interview your responses are recorded in reference to video and text-based questions. You will provide video recorded responses or text based responses. These interviews are intended to evaluate many soft skills such as leadership style, communication skills, values, professionalism and creativity. The Kira talent interview questions themselves are randomly assigned. Therefore your test may look very different than someone eases. Preparation time is given only for video questions but not for text based questions.

After all of your submissions are given, your answers will be evaluated by the Kira Talent team. As well, an automated system within Kira Talent reviews the technical aspects of your written responses, like spelling and grammar, structure and sentence flow. Each applicant’s responses receive a written communication score based on spelling and grammar, relative to other interviewees, and this score is sent to the institution with your video and text answers. The institution will then give you a rank and determine whether you move on to the next stage.

What can I expect on the Kira Talent Interview When you start the Kira Interview, you will be asked to first register for the Kira Talent Video Interview with your email ID. After registration you will then be guided step by step on how to successfully complete the interview process.

Once you’re ready with your computer, and you have confirmed the technical specifications, you begin with practice sessions. If you face issues with the setup, or are unable to access the guide for some reason, you can click on “Help” for further steps.    

The interview questions will be sourced from a database of questions and will not be personalized, ranging from 2-6 questions.

The questions will be random in nature and will either be written or asked in a video format.

After each question is asked, you’ll be given an allotted time to prepare for the answer.

You will get preparation time for each spoken question, followed by additional time to give your answer.

Video Questions In video questions, as the name implies, you are shown a video, provided time to critically think and are then to provide a recorded video response.

The length of time for these things varies by institution, but preparation time is generally 30-60 seconds. After this preparation time, you will be given additional time to record your answer; the time to answer is not standardized, it is determined by the institution interviewing you. This can be highly variable to don’t worry if what you are faced with differs than what you were expecting. You will receive a countdown on the screen prior to the start of recording. You then record, trying to be as natural as possible.

Text Questions In text questions, the question text will be displayed on the screen, and you will have to type a text response to that question. As with video interviews, the time allotted for your responses varies by institution. There is NO preparation time for text questions so don’t be caught off guard. The emphasis is on a quick reply without the ability to brainstorm ahead of time.

How to ACE the Kira Talent Interview Integrity Being honest with your answers, being real with your responses, and showing who you really are will go along way in your interview. Don’t embellish. Be true to your experiences, your strengths and your weaknesses. Committees use these real world experiences to predict how you will fair in their program down the road. The more genuine you are, the higher you will score.

It’s about the Soft Skills…

This is perhaps the most important element of the whole interview. Think about what qualities you would look for in the ideal candidate. What would they be? What attributes would you be looking for? These are the intangibles

that make students outstanding. Think about your experiences that show these qualities. This is what you want to emphasize. Be proud of who you are.

All Sides Often, questions are presented with limited scope. The onus is on your to evaluate all stakeholders, and present thoughtful responses which look at ALL sides of a given question. Answer Why. Provide context. Give insight in your decision making. These essential steps will bring the evaluator into your mind and although them to envision the amazing critical thinker you are!

Important Keys to your Success on the Kira Interview 



 



Don’t Pre-Type your Recorded Answers: This will make you sound robotic and not genuine. While a few notes for reference can help trigger your thoughts, don’t make it a habit.

Don’t try to memorize stories: Again, this goes back to being genuine and having integrity. If you prepare too hard, evaluators won’t get to know the real you. While it will be important to know yourself inside and out, don’t rely on pre-formatted templates to ace your exam.

Avoid Distractions: Make sure you are in a quiet area with out the bings and bongs of technology. Practice in this environment as well.

Answer the Question: While perhaps the most important aspect of the Kira Talent test, read carefully and answer the questions. Avoid the fluff and get right to the point.

If you stumble…. If you stumble, get right back to it. There is not better substitute than resilience. It is common that in a high pressure environment mistakes are bound to happen. This is normal and natural. It’s how you recover that will make the difference.
