Charles Pleasants PLEASANTS, Charles Clendon, of Ashland, joined his cherished son, Austin, and his parents, Clendon and Jean Pleasants, when he passed from this life on November 5, 2013. Charles is survived by his beloved sons, Brayden and Parke; dear companion, Pam Hughes; his sisters, Becky Grizzard and husband, George, Clendy Smith and husband, Randy; his faithful best friend, Yancey Jones; and the mother of his children, Ellen Pleasants. Charlie started his own printing firm, Austin & Brayden, in the 1980, later changed to Austin, Brayden & Parke for “the boys”
who brought him such joy. He was a natural salesman, turning customers into friends with his ever-present smile and great sense of humor. Charlie cared less about material belongings than sharing life’s experiences, and most often was found on the golf course in a favorite foursome. He enjoyed the distinction of having shot a hole-in-one three times, all during the last several years of his game. Charlie was a member of the PHHS class of 1966 and a 1971 graduate of Virginia Tech, where he was a founding brother of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was a long-time member of Hanover Country Club, Hanover Association of Businesses and past member of Ashland Kiwanis. Services were held at St. James the Less Episcopal Church, 125 Beverly Rd., Ashland, Va. 23005 on Nov. 9. Following the service, the family received friends at Hanover Arts and Activities Center, in Ashland. Charlie requested that we celebrate his life in joyful, colorful attire — no black. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to “Austin Brown Pleasants
Memorial Scholarship Fund” in care of Hanover Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1297, Ashland, Va. 23005 or to VCU Massey Cancer Center, P.O. Box 843042, Richmond, Va. 23284.
