This issue’s Product & Industry News section (starting on page 6) showcases the latest news from the industry. Our cover story this month looks at Leeds Trinity University as it unveils its latest campus development plans, which includes a new sport centre, an ecofriendly heat and power plant, en-suite student accommodation and a 3G FIFA accredited Astroturf pitch to name a few (see page 2). Next, Britain’s best-known natural history film-maker Sir David Attenborough officially opened the University of Bristol’s new £56.5 million Life Sciences building. The renowned broadcaster and naturalist, whose career has spanned seven decades, saw first-hand the world-class facilities for science research and teaching (see page 20). Elsewhere, Toshiba TEC’s erasable toner technology gets top marks at Millfields Community School, one of the most improved educational establishments in the UK (see page 24). This year for the first time the EAUC’s Annual Conference, ‘Challenging Connections’, will provide a formal stage for all of the voices in the tertiary education sector so that they can inspire and challenge one another (see page 28). The Association of University Directors of Estates (AUDE) is launching the inaugural Higher Education Estates and Facilities Awards, designed to highlight and celebrate the exceptional achievements of universities and those who work in them (see page 32). Manchester Metropolitan University has introduced a new high density data centre as part of a dual strategy to improve the reliability of IT services and reduce their environmental impact (see page 36). Cherokee County School District in Georgia decided to migrate its existing security over to a hybrid IP solution with victor unified management system from American Dynamics at the centre of the operation(see page 40).
