Combatting hunger and isolation in disabled and older adults by providing nutritious meals, enabling them to remain healthy and independent within their homes, families, and communities Annual
You are amazing! You are the Heroes of Hope.
Meals on Wheels Collin County (MOWCC) continues to impact senior hunger and isolation because of committed individuals, businesses, civic groups, churches, foundations, cities, first responders, and community volunteers who give of their time, talent, and treasure to support one of the most vulnerable populations our seniors In 2022, MOWCC restored health, hope, and hospitality to our older neighbors Since becoming CEO/Executive Director 6 years ago, I am committed to seeing that Meals on Wheels Collin County is no longer the best kept secret. I see firsthand on my meal delivery routes the impact of your generous help upon the faces of those behind the doors who are our mothers, fathers, grandparents, neighbors, disabled, widows, and veterans.
MOWCC honors the dedicated volunteers from interfaith and local communities who united over 40 years ago to ensure that no senior was left hungry or lonely within Collin County. In 2013, the Honorable Ray Ricchi led the core vision to see that older adults and disabled individuals would not have to choose between food, medicine, and shelter. Today, more than a million meals and well checks later, MOWCC successfully combats senior hunger and isolation while preventing premature institutionalization and hospitalizations. MOWCC successfully keeps seniors in their homes, families, and communities.
I am proud to be a part of an organization that is more than a meal but a greater movement to save lives. As this is the first year out of the pandemic, let us take this opportunity to salute some of the champions who helped to sustain the mission in 2020 -2021 which led to MOWCC achievements in 2022.
During the COVID 19 pandemic MOWCC seniors called daily to ask one question “Are you going to leave us? This was not an option for MOWCC operations as we quickly executed an emergency disaster plan with high intensity crisis management to serve hand in hand with Collin County first responders and healthcare providers MOWCC provided 633,058 daily lunches, weekend, and emergency meals while social distancing and c19 safety supplies for seniors Our organization transitioned more than 300 seniors attending closing senior centers to daily home delivered seniors receive homebound meals
During the Texas Ice storm disaster, the Collin County communities depended upon MOWCC to check on our rural senior neighbors MOWCC sent out an emergency call to action and mobilized hundreds of volunteers who delivered over 1,000 emergency meals and water Our Toyota North America partner provided MOWCC with storm fleet vehicles to maneuver the elements in hard-to-reach areas. Bank of America worked side by side with MOWCC Social Workers to conduct well checks. Fidelity Foundation, Texas Women’s Foundation, Moody Foundation equipped 200 seniors with communication technology. As Farmersville Police Department delivered meals in rural areas with limited volunteers. The cities of McKinney, Frisco, Allen, Plano, and North Central Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging (AAA) provided financial and senior safety net resources to support their senior residents. St. Gabriel Church supported an awning so that our volunteers could safely navigate curbside pickups in bad weather and scorching heat.
Board members Ryan Gebhart, VP of Baylor Scott & White McKinney Hospital and Tabitha South, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Medical City Plano helped guide our leadership through CDC and Health and Human Service regulations. While Board members Peggy Click, Brian Updike and the Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints made Secret Santa possible for the seniors. Board member Doug Johnson, Emerson Operations Executive, visited MOWCC wearing a C19 animated mask and encouraged the staff while giving a generous gift from Emerson Board member Jennifer Haworth, Chief Marketing Officer at Globe Life was relentless in ensuring MOWCC had a successful direct mail campaign in addition to providing financial support for kitchen equipment
Interfaith donors from the Premier Foundation sent generous gifts and messages of spiritual encouragement to the MOWCC leadership Constance Dentry an MOWCC volunteer took her dog Cinnamon on her meal deliveries to entertain the seniors as she served as the Chairman of the Stonebridge Charity Classic Fundraiser benefitting MOWCC.
And the relentless Sheila Williamson with Haiman and Hogue, Renee Thornton, Emerald Cottages, McKinney Chamber Senior Service Alliance and the Love Life Foundation made MOWCC the primary beneficiary of their powerful and creative community fundraisers MOWCC continues to partner with outstanding local nonprofits North Texas Food Bank and Community Lifeline McKinney in the fight against senior food insecurity beyond the pandemic The consistent daily prayers and letters of encouragement from our seniors and community still brings me to my knees with humility and reminds me of my purpose I will continue prioritizing the needs of our seniors and maintaining financial accountability and sustainability as we engage the community at large in the mission of MOWCC
On behalf of our incredible seniors and outstanding MOWCC team we salute you and appreciate all you do. We are a stronger organization in 2023 because of you.
Sincerely
Zella Tyson CEO/Executive DirectorIf you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream.

Meals on Wheels Collin County (MOWCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer-driven organization founded in 1976. Our mission is to combat hunger in disabled and older adults by providing nutritious meals, enabling them to remain healthy and independent within their families, homes, and communities. Meal delivery volunteers provide a friendly face and social interaction, helping combat isolation.
The organization also provides daily wellness checks, notifying MOWCC social workers of any health or safety concerns. Our Senior Safety Net program provides emergency medical support, incontinence and hygiene supplies, and durable medical equipment. Our long-term goal is to prevent premature institutionalization in long-term care facilities.
While hunger and isolation are our main concerns, our seniors struggle in multiple ways. Concerns such as lack of household supplies or food for pets impact our seniors. Some clients even struggle to have sustainable food during natural disasters or bad weather. This is our organization's passion. Our holistic services impact physical and social determinants of senior health. Because of our Secret Santa Program, seniors even receive gifts during the holiday season.
Meals on Wheels Collin County is committed to financial transparency and accountability. Our organization has earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator. You can be confident that we will be excellent stewards of your donations. Thank you to the list of talented individuals that helps achieve this goal.

Sally H. saw her chance to relax when retirement rolled around. Long days of doing absolutely nothing sounded nice for a change. That is, until Sally saw an advertisement to volunteer for Meals on Wheels on Facebook She has been in love ever since "The clients are just wonderful," said Sally "I felt like I was doing something important" Sally has been with the organization for nearly 6 years today Making connections to isolated individuals is something that she strives to do at Meals on Wheels.
Sally started at the organization as a delivery driver. After some time in her role, she realized just how big of an impact she was making. Many of the clients Sally encountered as a delivery driver fragile or alone. "The delivery person might be the only contact they have for twenty-four hours,” said Ms Sally She eventually graduated to the kitchen, where she assists in making hot, nutritious meals for these seniors
While her time is mostly spent in the kitchen, Sally still makes special deliveries such as holiday meals or seasonal supply boxes. During these deliveries, Sally participates in delightful conversations with her clients. She loves checking on the well-being of these individuals.
We are very grateful to have volunteers like Sally H with us Thank you so much for all that you do
Meals on Wheels Collin County is blessed to have Sally as a volunteer -- the seniors, even more so.
Our volunteers are the heartbeat of Meals on Wheels CC. Organizations such as Our Savior Lutheran Church and the volunteers below, ensure our seniors recieve hot, emergency and shelf-stable meals.
"You are always the best. Your boxes came just in time when I really needed them. Thank you and God bless."
"This is a lifegiving service full of wonderful people. The meals are wonderful, but it's the people that make the difference."

Three years ago, Pradipta S. was searching for a way to give back to the community At a local library, he found an opportunity to volunteer at Meals on Wheels. “I started out delivering food once a week,” said Pradipta. Eventually, once a week turned to thrice. Now, Pradipta works in both the kitchen and delivery role for Meals on Wheels.
When asked about what he admired most about delivering to clients, Pradipta said, “details”. He explained that many individuals are not mobile and cannot make their own food. “Every person is customized,” said Pradipta With each client’s situation being different, this ensures that everyone receives the extra help they need.
"Please become a delivery driver. It will be one of the most rewarding things you will ever do."

When you first speak to Robert W., you’ll feel he’s known you your entire life. You’ll be greeted with a warm voice that lets you know how grateful it is that you called. He tells you stories about his fifteen years with Meals on Wheels Robert brags about how the volunteers “take care of Mr. Robert,” no matter what.
Health problems have been present in Robert’s life for twenty-seven years. After some hard times and a painful divorce, he turned to Meals on Wheels for help. “The volunteers have been the greatest,” said Robert. He continued to name every volunteer of his by name. Many of these individuals receive hand-written cards from Robert often.
While Robert loves the well checks and the friendly faces, he also loves the food “My favorite meal has to be the vegetable lasagna,” said Robert “or the spaghetti and meatballs”. When Robert’s friends curiously ask about Meals on Wheels, he recommends strongly that they apply.
Thank you, Robert We are so happy to hear about the impact Meals on Wheels has made in your life. You’ve certainly made an impact in ours.
Meals on Wheels Collin County can serve a senior for an entire year for about the same cost as just one day in a hospital or 10 days in a nursing home.
Since getting Meals on Wheels, I could finally eat enough to have the strength to move around the house and do things I wanted Having someone to talk to and share stories about the Bible and our life is so good. It really is the meals that have changed my life though. If I didn’t have Meals on Wheels, I don’t know what I would do. Thank you for everything!" MOWCC McKinney, TX Client
