Re : Meaghan Roberts
Meaghan joined dHKa for her summer work-term, May through August, 2022.
She immediately settled in to the ofÞce work environment and provided valuable assistance to two of our senior architects on a number of projects.
Meaghan was working primarily in REVIT and worked on schematic and blocking design for residential projects, design development and drawing production, including graphics and layout work, for Development Permit application sets, and general drawing production and annotation work on Contract Documents for Building Permit submission. The projects were predominantly residential multi-family including a 14 unit Townhouse development, mid-rise wood frame apartments, and high-rise concrete and steel apartment buildings, so she had good exposure to a variety of scales, types, and methods of construction.
Meaghan is very diligent, focused, and attentive. She works well with others in a team environment, asks questions when necessary, and is careful and thorough with her work.
Meaghan would be a excellent addition to any architectural practice looking for a bright, independent, capable, and hard-working employee.
Please contact me directly if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
dHKarchitects

WILD CARROT WILD CUCUMBER MILKWEED 8
HOT SPRINGS COVE, BC
Using bio-inspired design strategies, Flux provides three programs to enhance the sense of discovery along an existing trail leading to the Hot Spring Coves in BC; an observation deck, a suspension bridge and a bathing pavilion. The proposed programs offer climate responsive enclosure systems suitable for the visitors specific needs.
Influenced by relative humidity, the opening and closing mechanism of pods was inspired by the seed dispersal process of the milkweed. Influenced by wind, the snapping mechanism of the second set of pods was inspired by the drying process of the wild cucumber. Lastly, the wild carrot’s hierarchical movement was implemented into the pod opening mechanism. The elements are designed to open and close in response to changes in the environment in order to always maintain a comfortable environment within the structure. Furthermore, the proposal synthesises three plant mechanics and prototypes that have been continuously developed throughout the design process.

Bridge the Gaps is a mid-rise housing complex that aims to address housing as a human right through providing opportunities for age friendly and multigenerational living. Although not targeting a specific demographic, it reflects the needs of the current population - one that is aging and one in which multigenerational households are becoming increasingly common. Situated in a key location on site, adjacent to an area of outdoor recreation, the complex acts as a community hub not only for its residents, but for the greater neighbourhood. It houses amenities for all ages and encourages intergenerational interaction. The overall massing of the buildings presents a variation of the podium tower type. The podiums allow the buildings to contain amenities to suit the needs of all ages and allow for an increased integration between the residents and the wider community. Furthermore, larger communal spaces are situated along main circulation routes, allowing residents to interact with one another easily and spontaneously.

interlocked
Interlocked consists of two boardwalks; one widely wraps around moments of program whereas the second boardwalk wraps tightly. The boardwalks joint form represents caduceus; a symbol of two snakes commonly used for pharmacies. In Greek mythology, caduceus was a wand representing negotiation. Similar to this caduceus, the boardwalks symbolize a negotiation between humans and nature. The boardwalks allow humans to circulate in the sky in order for nature to thrive untouched on the ground. At moments, the boardwalks descend to the ground for a controlled and close interaction between humans and nature. These areas host buildings and pavilions to amplify the human experience while encouraging nature to grow.

Located next to Mackenzie King Village and Village 1, the Gateway Residence utilizes levels of enclosure through two skins wrapping around a public atrium. Beginning with a simple block, voids were added to the building in relation to various features such as the site, creating gathering spaces, and residential units. These voids create moments of connection and community through views to the atrium and out to the site, as well a sense of privacy for residents through the enclosure that the skins allow. The atrium, being the main gathering space is laid out to allow for a variety of programs to occur.
