Meadows Living: Monthly Digest KELP IS ON THE WAY 227 Trees Get a Summer Boost In August, Monarch Tree Services applied a kelp extract treatment to 227 trees across Upland Park, Stewart Park, and Tyler Park. This targeted summer treatment harnesses the natural power of seaweed to help our our trees withstand Colorado’s summer heat and drought.

Why Kelp Kelp, a nutrient-rich seaweed extract, is prized for its natural plant hormones and bioactive compounds. Kelp treatments are a smart, sustainable way to extend the lifespan of trees—helping them recover from stress and thrive—without the high cost and disruption of full tree replacement.

Key Benefits Stress Recovery Natural hormones (cytokinins, auxins, gibberellins) boost heat tolerance and root development. Nutrient Uptake Kelp enhances soil microbes and frees up nutrients in alkaline soils. Water Efficiency Improves osmotic balance so trees retain more moisture. Sun Protection Reduces leaf scorch and chlorosis under intense sunlight. Damage Recovery Speeds repair after wind, hail, pests, or pruning. Immunity Boost Triggers systemic resistance against summer pests and pathogens.

What’s Next This September, Monarch Tree Services will continue their proactive care by applying the same treatment to a new group of trees throughout our neighborhood —just in time for the seasonal shift. By investing in preventative care now, we are preserving the beauty and health of our shared green spaces for years to come.
