How Do These Libraries Work? These Little Free Libraries offer a way to share good things to read favorite books from your childhood or books you would recommend to friends; books that teach, intrigue and engage you. All of us can help by keeping this collection stocked with reading material.
Whose Libraries are these? They belong to everybody neighbors, friends, and people we don’t even know yet. Anyone can use it. That’s why we want to take care of it.
Take a book. If you see something you’d like to read, take it. You don’t have to give a book at the same time as you take one
Share a book. After you’ve read it, share it in any Little Free Library book-sharing box or pass it on to a friend. Be a friend of all libraries, big and small. Share books whenever you can.
In 2017, MNC spent $250K to fix the trail surface In 2019, MNC spent another $250K for the same issue. With no long-lasting remedy, MNC set aside $350K in reserve funds to fix the true problem: drainage. Due to household runoff adjacent to the trail, large amounts of ice would build up on the walkway. The use of ice melts was the primary cause of the concrete deterioration. As a result, 9,600 sq ft of concrete was removed and replaced in September.
In addition, a drainage system was installed along the trail. This system will allow snow melt to flow underneath the walkway and down into the adjacent ravine. This system will drastically reduce the amount of water left on the trail; therefore, mitigating the ice accumulation as well. The walkway was also rebuilt with the proper recommended slope to further aid in water runoff
The surrounding native areas have been regraded and replanted with native seed, so the area should return to its normal appearance in the spring During the winter, The MNC will no longer use ice melts to improve the life expectancy of the trail. Soon, there will be posted signage explicitly stating this important reminder. We encourage you to check out the new and improved trail on your next bike or stroll around the neighborhood, which you access from Gould Circle.

The Taft House HOA Office is named after William Howard Taft, the 27th President of the United States. Why ? Taft played a critical role in the history of Castle Rock – and specifically – The Meadows. In fact, President Taft was the one who confirmed the sale of land to George H. Stewart where the Taft House now resides. As a tribute to George, we named a neighborhood after him:StewartPark!
One of the original homesteaders, Jeremiah Gould, owned 160 acres south of "The Rock." At that time, the community consisted of just a few shacks for prospectors, quarry workersandotherhiredhands.
In 1874, Gould donated 120 acres to "be known as Castle Rock." It was then that the six streets named Elbert, Jerry, Wilcox, Perry, Castle and Front were laid out. The Courthouse Square was designated, and 77 lots, each 50 by 112 feet, were auctionedforatotalof$3,400.
In The Meadows, we have a street in Jeremiah’s honor, known as Gould Circle. This street is part of the Briscoe Ranch neighborhood. As we learned in the April - June issue, George “Cole” Briscoe was one of the early pioneers who is accredited with putting Castle Rock on the map. Next time you drive through The Meadows, think about the few, but mighty individualsthatpavedthewayforourcommunitytoday.

Farmgirl: Food, Wine & Spirits was introduced to Castle Rock as Farmgirl Foods in January of 2018. Melissa Clement, owner/operator, had dreamt of opening a specialty food shop for over 15 years while working as a corporate event planner. At the end of 2017, Melissa lost her job and decided that the time had come to make her dream a reality She opened Farmgirl as a vendor inside the Emporium and began to curate a unique selection of locally produced food and gift items.
In 2019, Melissa moved her market into Ecclesia and began catering and offering sold-out Charcuterie 101 classes on a monthly basis. During this time the pandemic took hold and Melissa had to pivot her business to stay afloat. Because she was considered essential during the pandemic, she remained open and was able to provide Castle Rock with meat, cheese, produce, eggs, flour and the all too hard to find – YEAST! Offering free local delivery, her business grew exponentially and created the opportunity for her to open a new consignment store in town, Mercantile by Farmgirl Foods.
The Mercantile was a huge success with more than 100 vendors, however the increasing rent in downtown Castle Rock became unmanageable, and Melissa was forced with the decision of closing the doors forever or reinventing herself one final time. This pivotal point is what led to Farmgirl: Food, Wine & Spirits Melissa is a resident of The Meadows and saw the need for a liquor store in her own neighborhood. Still specializing in locally sourced products, Melissa now carries the best of BOTH worlds – food and liquor. With free weekly tastings, monthly classes, and other special events, she has established herself as a staple in the community and, more importantly, a friendly, inclusive business where she is able to meet the needs of her neighbors in The Meadows.
