Building Maintenance Plan South Haven Elementary School

District-Wide Goals 1. PTS will maintain healthy and safe learning environments for all students in our district.

2. PTS will be in compliance with the Indiana “Indoor Air Quality in Schools� rule IC 16-41-37.5.

3. PTS will work with Amereco, Inc. to develop and execute a plan moving forward.

Amereco Engineering, Inc. ● An environmental engineering consulting and project management group ● Based in Valparaiso, Ind. ● Has worked with a number of local schools to provide similar services

Why contract? ● Amereco Engineering, Inc. was highly recommended to provide the services we requested. ● The company has experience working with schools to ensure the building’s air quality meets Indiana state code.

5-STEP PLAN OF ACTION

Step 1: Revise the PTS Indoor Air Quality Program Each building will receive a revised manual that explains the updated program and protocols to follow.

Step 2: Review/develop policies for the following areas: ● ● ● ● ● ●

HVAC maintenance Temperature and humidity levels Ventilation rates Vehicle idling Allergens, irritants, mold, & dust Housekeeping

Indoor swimming pools Mercury spills Pesticides Animals Chemicals Furniture Construction

Step 3: Organize staff training Portage Township Schools staff members will participate in professional development training on these policies.

Step 4: Conduct testing Amereco will conduct regular inspections of each building to check for baseline air quality and ventilation.

Step 5: Provide Reports Portage Township Schools will receive detailed reports from Amereco that explains all findings in their inspections and how to remedy any errors.
